The atmosphere just hit a new water-vapour record: 27.35 kg of water vapour per m2 in August 2026, ~20 trillion litres more water than the previous record.

Warmer air holds ~7% more moisture per °C.

More water vapour means more energy to fuel extreme weather.
El Niño and global heating pushes water vapour in Earth’s atmosphere to record levels in August
Global heating contributes to record, with a warmer atmosphere able to hold more water, scientists say

Opinion | Are Labor's tax changes bad for young people, as some in the media would have you believe? No. Obviously not. www.crikey.com.au/2026/05/14/2...
OK, boomer: Claims Labor’s tax reforms are bad for young people is just the latest intergenerational swindle
Asset-rich investors want asset-poor young people to believe property investment perks are good for them. That’s horseshit, and most young people can smell it a mile off.

If your answers are Tony Abbott or Alexander Downer, you should probably give up
If Tony Abbott and Alexander Downer are the two candidates to preside over your political party, you might want to reflect on what the party is actually doing.

It’s not ‘uneconomic’ to build houses in Australia. Builders & developers are doing very nicely. High income earners are spending a fortune on extensions & holiday homes

What’s ‘uneconomic’ is thinking builders will ever build small houses for the poor instead of big ones for the rich

Australians remain deeply sceptical about the value of private healthcare – it’s time for radical reform | Anthony Scott
Healthscope’s collapse is a ‘canary in the coalmine’ moment for the embattled sector The viability of private healthcare in Australia has been thrown into doubt after Brookfield’s decision to place Healthscope, the operator of 37 private hospitals, into receivership. After months of acrimonious negotiations with private health insurers and a failed search for buyers, the global investment firm has walked away. This is a “canary in the coalmine” moment for the private hospital sector. Brookfield’s exit suggests that private hospitals, at least in the near term, are no longer a safe bet for private equity investors. The reasons are complex but not new. The sector has been under pressure since 2016, when shares in Healthscope and Ramsay Health Care tumbled amid falling demand for private health insurance – a trend not seen since the early days of Medicare.
