At the WCPSS meeting again. There’s this creepy guy who’s been coming here for years, almost always to attack trans people. Now he’s claiming that WCPSS hired a trans teacher specifically to evade NC’s Don’t Say Gay bill. The guy is delulu.

Sarah Stevens co-sponsored the infamous 2013 North Carolina law that courts said was designed with “surgical precision” to exclude Black voters.

She backed GOP gerrymanders. Chaired the House elections committee when NCGOP advanced its latest voting restrictions.

Another example of our current state budget containing hidden agenda items for certain lawmakers.

How to fix this issue? Make sure our state budget process is transparent to the public so we have a say where our tax dollars go in our state!

Every one of those brave and inspiring people you hear about on the news was exhausted and terrified the whole time. They were sad and angry and wanted to crawl into a hole and not come out. They wished they could have stayed in bed. Then they did it anyway. But they did it scared and sad and tired.
When the story of Metro Surge is told in media, don't for a moment, through the outpouring of solidarity and community building, despite the heroism, forget that it sucked ass every single day and some days it was like the sun had been blocked from the world

Whew, lots of temper tantrums on display at the WCPSS school board meeting tonight. Parents screaming, slamming the podium and begging Trump to harm our schools. Apparently someone got a little taste of that sweet, sweet Fox News attention and is courting more of it.

These whistleblower allegations are extraordinary.

If Trump Administration officials knowingly built a system designed to prevent Americans from receiving their ballots, that is not election security.

It is a betrayal of our Constitution and the American people.

I need to talk about what’s happening in Wake County, NC. We now have a candidate for House who’s literally making “reaction” posts to…things that never happened. (This may be a thread).
The screenshot on the left is from Winn Decker. It’s a sweet, anodyne post about Dolly Parton.

Board member Cheryl Caulfield keeps listing important information about our schools that she didn’t know about. Ignorance is very much on brand for her, but usually she doesn’t brag about it so loudly.

WCPSS school board member Lynn Edmonds correctly pointed out that our legislature passed its budget a year late after drafting it in secret. School boards must, by law, pass a budget each spring, months (or a year) before they know what the state will provide. We need better lawmakers in NC.

Of course, the bigots said their piece in public comment and immediately left before the School Board delved into the actual business of running our schools. They couldn’t give a flying fig about the schools in any meaningful sense, except as they can be used as stages for their culture war garbage.

So the new line for bigots who hate Trans people is that expecting kids to address their teachers respectfully is “compelled speech.” Which is, of course, nonsense. (I’m at the WCPSS school board meeting).

But the local NAACP showed up in support of the teacher. Respect.

A woman with no kids in school and clearly no idea of what goes on in schools just claimed that our schools don’t teach science and that’s why it’s bad that a trans teacher exists. School board meetings are wild, y’all.

What kind of sick person do you have to be to get up at a school board meeting and cheer budget cuts? I guess the same kind of person who demands that schools provide parents a description of the genitalia of each teacher in the school before their kid attends.
