I am going to do some light defense of Lorenz. Although I think most would agree phone/social media is too prominent in our lives the truth is that there is not a ton of research suggesting “phone addiction” or other diagnoses related to phone use is real. Haidt et al really overstate their case.

There's been a really odd game of telephone that Persona 4 is a cozycore found family about your queer friends and then people play it and it's full of homophobic jokes and mean spirited teenage humor because it's a game from 2008.
I can't help but feel that all the talking points it gets dragged out for comes from people so desperate for validation that they feel their own self denied that certain characters aren't the way they are.

Persona 4 is the only case I've ever seen of a game being on trial forever because it failed to consider the psychological deterioration of its audience.

They truly didn't see those things as Anime or even Japanese in the 90s. Shit like Final Fantasy 8/9 and 10-2 were seen as betrayals.
A friend told me years ago about an observation they had of a type of gaming youtuber who despises anime but things like Street Fighter and Final Fantasy “don’t count because I like them” and how that often ends up with a crashout from insecurity years down the line and I keep thinking about that.

Pokemon should have stayed sprite based, or at least 2D, and focused on blitzing people with the amount of content that was in the game like HGSS did. Leave the immersive/cinematic stuff to spinoffs.
