Rome: Layers of Time - Epilogue What Remains? A final reflection on Rome, memory, endurance, and what remains when the centuries have passed. The one question that has followed me through Rome is simply this: What remains? What is left? Does that question apply only to the past? What is left of an emperor after his power has disappeared? What is left of the families who once filled great palaces?

Rome: Layers of Time -Trastevere A journey through Trastevere, where bridges, churches, poetry, legends, and everyday life reveal the people who have carried Rome’s stories across generations. There was no grand entrance into Trastevere, no monumental staircase, no marble gateway announcing that this was somewhere important. Instead, there were tables beneath umbrellas, people eating lunch, friends talking around a fountain, and someone hurrying across the cobblestones while another person seemed perfectly content to sit and watch the afternoon unfold.

Faust: Unravelling the Great Enigma – Episode 12: The Scholar with the Lamp The Earth Spirit has vanished, leaving Faust shaken and alone. He has reached toward the infinite, only to discover that he is not as great as he imagined. And then Goethe does something wonderfully unexpected. The door opens and in walks Wagner, in his dressing gown and night-cap, carrying a lamp.

A Bridge Between Worlds A reflection on Ponte Sant’Angelo, the ancient Roman bridge that became a pilgrimage route, a place of memory, and a bridge between worlds. The river moved quietly beneath me as I looked toward Castel Sant’Angelo. Between stretched a bridge lined with angels. At first, it seemed almost too beautiful to be practical. A procession of marble figures suspended between water and sky.

The Complicated Legacy of a Public Gift A Clanmother audio reflection exploring the Baths of Caracalla and the complicated legacy of one of ancient Rome’s great public spaces. The walls rose above me, broken and weathered, yet still immense. Standing within the Baths of Caracalla, I tried to imagine the space as it had once been. Not silent and open to the sky, but filled with water, conversation, footsteps, laughter, argument, and the ordinary movement of Roman life.

Rome: Layers of Time -Galleria Doria Pamphilj
The great doors of the Doria Pamphilj Gallery opened, and I stepped into another world. At first, I noticed the paintings. They seemed to be everywhere. Lining walls, rising above doorways, filling corridors and galleries with colour, light, and story. Ornate ceilings stretched overhead, their frescoes drawing the eye upward. Gilded frames caught the sunlight that filtered through tall windows. Around me, visitors moved quietly from room to room, pausing before masterpieces and then continuing on.
