... or Beck or even Becky. Not very serious. Canadian, 50-something, writes, still careful about covid, mother to some interesting young adults, generally kind. She/her.
Locally to me, a person was filmed while in mental health crisis and the video went horrifically viral - a thing they wrote about later on as being just devastating. It is cruel and it should not happen.
New petition sponsored by Liberal MP Arielle Kayabaga calls for a new criminal offence banning recording / publishing video of vulnerable people in public, including those who are homeless, experiencing mental health crises or impaired due to substance use

Things are very fraught right now, so here is this: I have a new deodorant and the smell of it makes me feel overwhelmingly nostalgic. I realized what it smelled like today:

One thing that's very scary about US aggression towards Canada is how every time it happens, Americans liberals don't really seem to treat it as a major issue.

Have the Dems come out forcefully about Canada? All I ever really see are Dem governors asking us to go there on vacation.

This isn't a thing I typically post, but I spent some time last night helping this person develop a plan to escape a family that’s been hurting her (and am also working on helping her optimize this page, including putting up a budget). #mutualaid #transmutualaid

There's a lot of things I won't get over from the past decade, but people's willingness to try to memory hole the extremely deadly pandemic we all lived through and killed actual people, on their watch and partly because of their idiocy, is high on that list.

I sent a fairly furious email to Tim Hortons and got a bland response back that Harry Potter is "iconic" and "magical", which makes me feel like Tim Hortons was really, really unprepared for any sort of negative response.

Did I just sprint across the road to tell the mom of the yard full of little kids - who I have never met - that we have a tornado warning? Was she deeply unimpressed? Did said tornado not show up? All yes.

A 51st state joke in a review of a Canadian film in the Hollywood Reporter is why “most of us aren’t like that!” falls on unbelieving ears, America. Centrists finding annexation jokes funny is how it gets normalized. I am not sure how many times you have to learn this lesson at the world’s expense.

Fantastic (this is sarcasm) news this morning: town council (100% old people) recently declared it to be "Christian Heritage Month" in town AND I have found out that my mother-in-law (who is both dying and who has also never liked me) is coming over for much of next week.

Is everyone talking about Star Wars? Here is my Star Wars story - I grew up in the 70s but I never, ever saw a single Star Wars movie because my dad had taken great and permanent offense to them for some reason and so the only property adjacent thing I ever saw was the Star Wars Holiday Special.

A friend's favourite Halloween story is when they - a teenager in the 90s - went trick or treating with friends, and stopped at an old guy's house who rolled his eyes to see teens, told them to "wait a fucking minute" and came back, tossing packs of cigarettes and bottles of beer in to their bags.
