There's a grandfather clock in the foyer of 1428 Hollow Street. It stopped at 12:07 and stayed there for thirty-nine years.

Then every light in the house dies at once — three phones, three dead batteries, the same second — and in the dark the clock ticks. Once.

Nobody in the room is near it.

Three haunted houses crossed my feed this weekend, none of them built the same way.

One manor rearranges its own hallways. One folk-horror legend is going up in pixel art. One demo landed and the devs spent the day watching people play it.

Good week to like scary things.

For months we told players how many endings they'd found. "1 of 7." Honest, and completely inert — nobody stands back up for a number.

So we handed the job to the house. Every ending now names one thing you missed, out loud:

"You never played the tape back."

A lantern burning at the treeline, past the dead garden. Someone holding it, standing completely still, face lost in the dark.

Then it goes out. Not fading. Out — and the treeline is empty.

Still my favourite thing we wrote for the house at 1428 Hollow Street.

Something I keep circling back to: the scariest part of a horror story is almost never the reveal. It's the ten seconds before it, when you already know and you're still hoping you're wrong.
