Also, unlike Mark's contention here, Obama has also been fairly public in noting Trump's corruption and self-dealing. It's a little strange to see it as an either/or proposition. . . Unless framing it as such is simply a way of boosting one's visibility by farming Internet outrage.

Almost all the mail in Eastern Washington is processed in Spokane now. It's nuts that ballots mailed in Benton or Franklin counties travel up to Spokane just to get routed right back to the county offices. This doesn't even consider the likelihood that they're purposely slow walking the mail.

Don't all these map apps just automatically upload place designations from the US Geological Survey or something? It's the reason they all switched to Denali, and then back to McKinley, in response to EOs by Obama and Trump, the USGS changed the name.

And, where I actually lived was where I soon determined it was important for me to vote. I never lived in my *permanent residence* again. In fact, my parents moved my freshman year at college to the other side of the state. Six months in, my permanent residence was a place I had never lived.
August 13, 2026 at 4:50 AM
You literally do not have to claim this. The IRS states clearly that you can live someplace other than your parents' residence while attending school and still be a dependent.

It's never shocking just how patronizing you can be. I love it when you yell at the "kids" on your lawn, even when they're legal adults. . .

Don't ever change. It's entertaining as hell. Frustrating, sure. But still entertaining.

When I chose to go away from home to school, I wasn't gaming anything. Also, I was dependent as hell on my parents the entire time; they paid for almost everything, and, I still never lived in their house again. Voting where I actually lived made far more sense than voting at "home."
August 13, 2026 at 4:38 AM
It doesn't actually matter because revenue code and voting rights are not legally dependent. Even if they were, there are exceptions to dependent residency in the revenue code, one of which is so the dependent can attend school. The code accepts that dependents can domicile elsewhere.
August 13, 2026 at 4:34 AM
It's just as interesting as how many people don't understand what the hell exceptions are and instead hyper focus on a single term like dependent as if it really even matters in a discussion about voting.
August 13, 2026 at 4:25 AM
". . . with some exceptions."

I wonder what those are?

I'm not 100% sure what's being argued over here, but some of you seem to think the dependent residency thing is more set in stone than it is.
August 13, 2026 at 4:16 AM
Not really sure if Revenue Code should be a factor here at all. Why should it be more determinative than physical location?

I voted absentee at my "home" address my first year at college, even though I never "lived" in that house again. I moved to the big city and never looked back.

The current contract/cap is not permanent and can/will change at some point. No need to circumvent when you can just write in new loopholes to exploit.

This was after he'd been hit earlier that month by a car that changed lanes without looking, forcing him off the road, totaling his bike, and "f-ing up [his] shoulder."

Had a long conversation about this with someone who expressed how upset he was that his ex wouldn't let him buy their 16yo son a motorcycle. I got him to acknowledge that they're mostly dangerous because of idiots in cars, but he could not accept that something could/would ever happen to*his* kid.

No matter how correct you are (and, you are 100% correct), this will no longer matter to one third of the population now that Trump has opined on it. Naturally, the media must show deference to the view of "real" Americans that the Depression did not end until the 2nd term of the Eisenhower Admin.
