Today we mourn the thousands of lives lost tragically in this attack, and those lost after. We must never forget the first responders, servicemen, and civilians that sacrificed their safety to help another. Bravery and resilience carried our nation through this day, and it carries us forward.

This week, we had two productive hearings for the AI in Healthcare Study Committee. We must remain thoughtful in our approaches to technological advancement. It was great to get back in the hearing room and work bipartisanly through this important policy issue.

Today, we honor all of the dedicated workers who keep Wisconsin moving forward. We must continue the fight for strong unions, livable wages, and comprehensive workers protections as a way to honor the folks who show up day in and day out. Wishing everyone a Happy Labor Day!

This month is National Suicide Prevention Month. I hope it serves as a reminder not to struggle alone, to check in with loved ones, and to honor those we’ve lost to mental illness. This session, I co-sponsored a few different pieces of legislation to strengthen mental health resources statewide.

Yesterday, I joined WayForward Resources in kicking off Hunger Action Month. 12.6% of Dane County residents are food insecure, the highest percentage since tracking began. Every Wisconsinite deserves access to nutritious food; it’s important we come together to support our neighbors in hard times.

The right to vote is a core tenet of our democracy. On this day we commemorate the adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to secure voting rights for women across our country. Today we celebrate the progress we’ve made toward equality and recognize the work that is unfinished.

I’m honored to have been recognized as a Conservation Champion with a 100% on the Wisconsin Conservation Voters Scorecard. They do valuable work around our state and have been a great partner this session in efforts to preserve our environment. I look forward to continuing this work next session!

In August, we celebrate Black Business Month! Black-owned businesses are an invaluable part of our communities and our statewide economy. This week specifically is highlighting some great restaurants near the Madison area. I hope you’ll join me this month in supporting local Black-owned businesses.

I had the pleasure of touring Home Instead last week to learn more about their work providing over 30,000 hours of community-based care to patients in and beyond the 80th District. Thank you to all of the staff who make it possible to deliver dignified services to our vulnerable neighbors!

In July, we recognize Disability Pride Month to confront stigma and discrimination toward our neighbors with disabilities. I’ll continue to fight for fully funded special education, comprehensive social welfare programs, and accessible healthcare for those in our community who need it most.

I was glad to meet with Group Health Cooperative leadership and staff from the Wisconsin Association of Health Plans last week. Alongside some colleagues, we had a great discussion about reducing racial disparities, increasing affordability, and regulating AI use all in healthcare.

The U.S. Constitution, not the president, determines who is a citizen. Trump is not above the Constitution. I’m pleased that the Supreme Court joined the rulings of our other federal courts to strike down this reckless overreach.

Uplifting the “I Voted” sticker K-12 design competition the City of Verona is hosting! This is a great reminder that civic engagement can start young and it’s important to be connected to our local governments. I look forward to picking up some winning stickers after voting in the fall election.

Thank you to the team at DNR for making this happen. I introduced legislation this session to make this happen but am glad to see it done administratively. This is a great step to help our state parks thrive but there is more work to be done!
