calling this "misalignment" instead of "negligence" is an accountability dodge. we already have laws about cyber crimes and there's no scale of ML model you can incorporate into your code that makes you not responsible for running it

But SCOTUS told me this was all in the past…
A new study finds slavery still casts a long shadow on the United States’ well-being, worsening the health outcomes for Black people in certain locations more than 150 years after abolition. https://scim.ag/4zhYD4N
Slavery linked to mortality gap between Black and white Americans today
New study is among the first to quantify and explain slavery’s influence in contemporary U.S. health disparities

Jasmine Sun on Ezra Klein + the roiling coverage of the Michigan primary has me thinking there is a consensus moment rn for a platform of 1) Medicare for All, 2) fix social security, 3)get AI under control - period. Reforming the broken democracy won’t touch ppl directly, those three things will…

How incredibly sad. A “first amendment zone” to celebrate the founding of a country that is supposed to be a first amendment zone. And exactly what kind of sign gets you thrown in the first amendment prison? You and I both know and you should be as sad and embarrassed about this as I am.

In which Pete Hegseth recounts D-Day from the Nazi perspective.
Hegseth at Normandy:

"Sadly, today, different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies. Beaches in Spain and Italy and Greece and Bulgaria. Boats and men arrive. When will European capitals do something about that invasion? Or is it too late? I pray not, and I believe not."

Do those who think trans people are scary avoid calling their computer/siri/car “she” or “he”? I can’t decide which answer would make me think less of them.

The NAACP is asking Black athletes to abstain from choosing some schools in the Deep South located in states that are erasing Black political power through gerrymandering. I write about what that means and whether it could actually work for @theatlantic.com www.theatlantic.com/culture/2026...
Hit Them Where It Hurts
Asking Black athletes to sacrifice for the greater good could reshape college sports and national politics alike. But it won’t be so easy.

I watched a video last wk of AOC visiting the Trump +70 county where this happened. The R family she visited said “if anyone can help, she’ll be the one to do it”. This wk she’s bringing their struggle to the floor of the house. After 40 years of bullshit from the Rs and Ds, time for something new.

A great example of what’s wrong with the for-profit media. He did say this, while also saying he wasn’t going to investigate them.

Clicks>context every fucking time.

Publishing choices like these create the bubble that leads to surprise from rational people when the election goes the way it did.

It only took Ron Desantis and Chris Rufo two years to wreck this once outstanding college. It was too woke. Had too many LBGT students. So they took it over and wrecked it while enriching their cronies along the way.

There wasn’t any borderline about it. All boxing broadcasts are both tedious and eccentic, but this one was jawdroppingly silly.
Are all boxing broadcasts this tedious and absurd? Because holy hell, this is borderline parody.

Trump wil hate Loper Bright. Agency action thwarted every time. Agency issues rule, affected party sues and finds an advantageous court, court litigates the issue, long trial. Then Appeals. Nothing ever gets done. The whole thing is subject to the court calendar. Scalia loved Chevron Deference.
