During the editing process, there are some things I leave alone. A lot of it involves prose of philosophy. Where the theme of the story comes together at a climax. If my stuff gets made into a show or movie, I wonder how it would look on screen. I’m proud of this paragraph

Sometimes I reread stuff while I’m line editing and find things and go, “damn, I wrote that??” It’s always an amazing feeling.

It’s my cover art! Paid a nice pretty penny for it. It shows my main characters and their silhouettes against a white background. It’s telling of the type of story(stories) this is

One of the most badass lines I’ve ever written is this:

“He threw a tsunami at me.”

“And then what happened?”

“I threw it back.”

Been a while since I posted here. Since then I’ve started a TikTok and Instagram where I go into detail about themes and literary stuff. Like recently I’ve posted about forgiveness and redemption.
Doesn’t really transfer over here too well. But I started work on the 4th manuscript

It’s making me a lil upset that DDR5 RAM costs more than a firearm right now.

Some lore as to why money isn’t really a thing in Desire’s The Oldest House.
After seeing or interacting with impossibility, your desires bring you to a… stranger position. Your interest and desires are payment enough. Money isn’t even close to what it’s worth anymore.

Call me dramatic, but after wrapping up the first draft of my 3rd manuscript, I reflect on the best parts of writing. When the story continues.

I’m exhausted, and yet I want to write more. I’m excited, moved. And left shaken from the sadness of the story.

I like this a lot. I’d love to get to drafting a statement myself.
I should include something like this in my author's notes! 😂

Earlier I lamented about how I’m afraid of being accused of using AI. It seems like publishers have been doing exactly that with black authors. Backing out of deals and potentially leaving these authors blacklisted.
It makes me not even want to bother with publishing.

One thing my Beta reader has gotten on me about is pacing.
My manuscripts are fast paced. I rush through character arcs and scenarios really quickly.
Like only watching the cutscenes of a video game. As time goes on I’ll learn to fix this, but for now it’s a mess

Q1: Since we're talking about plot, we figured it would be fun to see how you plot! Based on this nifty chart, what is your plotting/writing style alignment? #WeeknightWriters

I could actually attend one of these brainstorming sessions. I’d Love to engage with the community and gain skills while I’m at it… as soon as I’m off orders☹️☹️
Q4: What can you do in the next week to make your life a little more pleasant? #WeeknightWriters

I tend to get ideas for arcs and characters from songs I find myself listening to. Colleta’s Agoraphobia captures the theme for my MC.
Six is confused. It doesn’t help with all the time reset stuff and the amount of concepts and plot points going on… or maybe I’m a messy writer

I once got some advice that for new authors, the length of their books should be around 80,000 or 120,000 words.
“Long books don’t get published.” They said.
I was offended at first. And then I wrote my first manuscript and understood why. Best part- I can write as many sequels as I desire.

Fellow Authors, without any context, what is the 1st line of your current WIP?

I think about my life as a collection of memories personified by emotion. Heavy, light… Angry. It’s hard to think about the past and contextualize it with who you once were. Maybe that’s why identity matters

Fellow authors, without any context, what is the 1st line of your current WIP?

Humanity’s thirst for exploration saw them across their progenitor planet until no inch was left untouched, into the stars protecting them from the devouring dark, & then humanity pushed beyond even that.

Fellow authors: Without any context, what's the first line of your current WIP?

(I'm doing first few sentences because lol)

Instant.
Fluorescent lighting. A shudder of gasses emitted through tubes. Mercury-vapor gas, an electrical pulse carried through, end to end, causing it to glow,

When writing a paradox, I try to make the story recursive. Or at least the events are. There’s the loop that happened that you don’t see and the one the reader is reading. For the paradox to take place, something has to either happen or didn’t happen at the same time.

I’m threatened by the use of ai in writing because it casts a layer of doubt onto most works. Everything, from this post to my prose is up for critique. Which is valid, but it makes me want to edit less.
When I edit a whole book-

Hi #WeeknightWriters, I’m Walker and I’m writing a speculative fiction series of sagas and other interconnected stories about a place called The Oldest House. I’m inspired by Remedy’s Sam Lake, Kingdom Hearts, and final fantasy, and detective stories. Currently facing writers block but I’ll push on
Hello #WeeknightWriters ! Come on in, introduce yourself and your WIP, and let us know how your writing week is going! Or not going, that's valid too

The word is at the top of the page. Gotta go full screen to see it. There’s a surprising amount of “knocked out.” Prose in this work. But I wanted to be fair

I think that a community whose identity is based on surviving the worst of humanity is the foundation of the world’s cultures we see today.
It means that we are more than that. We are survival, we are identity despite that, and we’re the smile that happens after that. Happy #Juneteenth
