Takes the same number of eyes to monitor a man as it does a woman. You may just need to step in more often.
Takes the same effort to review a female prisoner as it does a male, you are just more likely to find women who have experienced abuse.
Both cases, no justification for differing policies.

Disagree. There may be a case about where you focus resources, as there is here, but the policy shouldn't differentiate. Good example of what I mean.

Oh I agree. However, this was a question of policy, and (to go round the circle again) I would vehemently argue against differential policies based on gender, which is what Dame Vera appears to be proposing in this clip.

I will concede that it is possible that in the full interview (which I haven't seen) Dame Vera makes a better and clearer argument. I am, however, always sceptical of policies that differentiate on gender grounds outside of things like sport and health care.

We are largely in agreement I think, except this clip is singling out female victims of abuse, making it about gender. This isn't a strawman/misrepresentation: She is arguing for different treatment. That context is made worse by her comments about "non violent prisoners generally known as women".

Yes, I watched it. The point Dame Vera made was lost in her rather sexist ramble. At best it was ineloquent, but my point remains, the gender of the inmate is irrelevant, the circumstances of their crime are relevant. Do you genuinely think people should be treated differently based on their gender?

You miss my point.The aim to get abuse victims out because of their circumstances is valid, the aim to get women out because they're women so more likely to be victims isn't. Yes, most would be women, my point was that while gender may show where to direct effort, it isn't a metric for the decision.

So the determining factor is context and background to the crime. Women may well be statistically more likely to be the victims of domestic abuse, but the abuse is the factor, not the gender. You could have a male domestic abuse victim with the same argument, less common, no less valid.

I fail to see how the gender of the criminal should be of any relevance to the punishment given or the balance to be struck with protecting the public.

At the very least there should be balance, a response saying "we know this is bullshit because ...." or "the speaker fails to mention that.....". The unchallenged claims of virtue from faith groups is cringe worthy.

As always, start with an understanding of how it was put together, what the motives were, what bits were edited, which gospels were left out because they didn't conform to the intended story. That understanding is vital so you can properly assess it.

There are few things as heartbreaking as seeing a child praying. Awful that society doesn't do more to protect the vulnerable from faith groups. The insidious creep of CofE into education is horrific.
