Not a bad way to end this Scottish shoot. I’m very, very sad to be leaving but the next shoot awaits! Onwards and southwards.

Second Scottish eclipse shoot, second cloudy sky, which was a shame because it suggests the weather up here is uncooperative, when for the rest of the trip it’s been glorious. So it’s an eclipse thing, not a Scottish thing!

Last day of this shoot in Scotland ending with an eclipse. No pressure then

I’m not religious but if there is a heaven, I suspect everyone will have a Scottish accent!

Ah, Inverness, am I pleased to see you!

Off to Scotland filming for a week. Interestingly, my last major filming trip up there also had an eclipse. Is that a portent of doom or second time lucky (the last one was clouded off)? Tune in next Wednesday to find out!

Can’t help thinking this wrap should’ve been called ‘Chicki Chicki Bang Bang’……

It’s like screaming into the abyss I know but it really is painful for video professionals to observe the mutilation of their craft in social video, not because it challenges their status but because that craft exists to serve audiences. Right now the focus is all on serving algorithms & it sucks

It’s Sunday, so I’m trying not to think about Politics but it strikes me that the five way split of English political parties is a pretty good reflection of society. It’s the system that’s the problem not the “fragmentation of the vote”. Fragmentation in this context is, simply, representation.

I stood staring at this wonderful image for ages on a shoot at the Royal Society. Would have given anything for it to have been the man himself & to chat for a while. Happy Birthday Sir!

‘Double rigged’ camera set ups are starting to be more visible but this is a non-solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. You can’t frame properly for both ‘normal’ & vertical video with one move. You’ll always need to reframe one option. The key lies in seeing clearly the value of each format.

No other craft has become a technical free for all like video. With all other crafts, there’s an understanding that the skills you learn empower you to create amazing things. With social video, there seems to be no such understanding & there’s even an ‘anti-craft’ sentiment, which makes no sense.

Just thinking out loud but…. is it perhaps time for a little chaos with Ed Milliband?

I’ve no desire to even think about this turgid period in our history but it somehow feels reassuring to know there was actually a plot, rather than there being some kind of national zeal for self harm.
One of the key revelations of the Epstein documents from the UK perspective is the strange plot to topple (and that's the word they use) the Tory government of Theresa May. Bannon, Epstein, Farage and Johnson were at the core of it. Here's an excellent recap of the whole sordid scheme.

The far-right former Trump adviser told Jeffrey Epstein that "we are overthrowing May right now" as he worked with Boris Johnson to remove the then Conservative Prime Minister from office

Here’s my take. Labour blocking Andy Burnham made voters go “right, we’re ‘avin you!” From that point it was a clean slate & people voted on principle. Greens offer hope, Labour (currently) doesn’t. There’s also a tie-in with water pollution & billionaires. Not tactical voting, positivity winning!

The second and third richest men control Google.

The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.

And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.

Never ceases to amaze me how eager these people are to show their true colours. Feels like a fundamental blindspot with popularism.
Has there ever been a more graceless and divisive concession?

‘Andrew The C***’… it flows so well, like ‘Ming The Merciless’ or ‘Ethelred The Unready’
Just listen to what Andrew’s nickname was amongst royal protection officers.

I thought we were descended from apes not raccoons… 😳 Bless!
A raccoon entered a liquor store the other day and drank his fill: rum, moonshine, even peanut butter whiskey. Then he passed out on the floor of the bathroom. Don’t worry, he’s OK, and was safely released back into the wild.

The far right’s blind spot is they think that voters who softly pivot to them around specific issues, share their underlying values & objectives. But of course the far right doesn’t have any values & when voters discover this, they go “no, hang on, that’s not what I meant” & kick them out.
