Over my dead body 👎🏻
A lot of people in public health believe that MAHA is “nothing more than a subversive anti-vaccine, anti-science syndicate,” but the movement is an opportunity that the public-health sector “cannot afford to squander,” Craig Spencer argues:
Public Health Needs MAHA
The field must swallow its pride and admit where the insurgent movement is right.

‘Unprecedented’ global effort gives new name to polycystic ovary syndrome – and new hope to millions of women
Decades-long campaign powered by patient perspectives results in switch from PCOS – a name that caused confusion and undue suffering – to PMOS

“Ample research shows that women aren’t being coerced in large numbers to have abortions; far more often they are forced to continue pregnancies they don’t want,” writes Mary Tuma.

Many survivors report that abortion pills made it possible for them to escape their abusers.

Let me get this straight, we exclude women from biomedical research for decades & then defund hundreds of NIH grants mentioning women? And after ignoring AND defunding them, we wonder why our maternal mortality rate is so high? Why women don’t *want* to become pregnant? Shocking.

Did you know the laws being used to punish people for pregnancy loss and abortion today have roots in the 1600s?

“The instruments to punish women with shame and humiliation may have changed, but the instinct to punish has not,” writes @pregnancyjust.bsky.social’s Kulsoom Ijaz in an op-ed:
Arrests for Pregnancy Loss Are Little More Than Modern Witch Trials
Centuries ago, the state wounded women’s bodies in public to enforce obedience. Today, it punishes them through arrests, indictments, and mugshots plastered all over the news that trail people for lif...

As a Medicaid doula myself, these programs are life-saving. Cutting these funds is incompatible with caring for pregnant people and babies
Preemptively cutting 'optional' Medicaid programs in anticipation of cuts is going to disproportionately harm marginalized people! Democrats COULD have increased the scope of federal funding mandates to make these core programs, and they didn't.
Bracing for federal cuts, some states are already paring back Medicaid services
Paying for doulas to help birthing moms in maternity care deserts was a priority for Montana. But it halted the plan amid a budget shortfall and fears over coming federal Medicaid cuts.
