I fucking hate how these fascist tech bros have co-opted Tolkien's work. They're such fucking losers.

I'm fascinated by this phenomenon. I enjoy watching lots of different sports, I've played club basketball for 30+ years. I nearly never talk about it with other guys, especially new acquaintances. I find it a real turn-off if a conversation turns to sports. Why do men think this is a good topic?!
I'm a 51 year old man and I've tried - really tried - to cultivate an interest in sport throughout my life. It would make talking to other men so much easier, and I envy the simple pleasure it seems to bring people. But it's just SO terminally boring and pointless.

This is how you know these people

1) don't actually watch women's sport
2) have never played sports with women

We've had several women join our basketball runs over the years & they've all easily held their own. One young lady had such a mean crossover she just broke everybody's ankles.
Them: Trans women can't play women's basketball. They're bigger and stronger. It wouldn't be fair!
Meanwhile, the cis women in basketball:

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

Julia Donaldson's most famous children's book might be the Gruffalo, but surely her best children's book (or at least my favourite) is Paper Dolls.

I nearly always had to hold back tears when I read it to my daughter. I can't wait to start reading it to my son.

More people play basketball than rugby in the UK (often overlooked fact). The FIBA women's world cup is currently taking place in Germany and we've just had a round of qualifiers for the men's WC next year. You'd never know any of this if you manage to find the basketball section on BBC Sports. Why?

what a stunning shot!
Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state.

A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface.

And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

Everytime I think Lucille Ball couldn't be any cooler, I learn something new about her that elevates her further.

(I don't care if the fillings story isn't true!)
Sixty years ago, a trailblazing sci-fi series that wouldn't have existed if Lucille Ball hadn't intervened, and Gene Roddenberry imagined a better society, capable of dealing with whatever existed where no one had gone before, took flight. Happy 60th Anniversary, Star Trek!👽🚀

Europe has a far right problem and the US government plus various tech bros are encouraging it. The centre right insofar as it remains is stuck in paralysis as to what to do, and much of the media likewise, including supposedly "progressive" titles (yes you, staggers).

I feel like Labour's entire comms policy for at least the past decade is basically "let's see what the pundits and public are saying, then say what theyre saying, but toned down, in case we offend the far right"
