It was such a treat to find these gorgeous little green cup mushrooms in the forest this morning. Usually all I can ever find is the bright turquoise mycelia in the rotting wood. Finding the thumbnail size fruiting bodies is pretty rare for me. Their colour is unreal. 🍄🌿

Thinking @worldbollardassoc.bsky.social might want to see this
Heart pounding in my ears, I run, the muted sound of webbed feet slapping the pavement behind me. I dive into the car and slam the door, shouting in triumph. Turning the key, I am rewarded with nothing but a single dry click. My blood runs cold. From outside the window, I hear a dark, throaty laugh.

In the Renaissance people theorized, since the Aeneid is great, if you wrote poems made only of words & phrases from the Aeneid rearranged they should be great too, since a great source regurgitated should yield greatness.

They produced NOTHING we still read.

Thinking about that a lot lately.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖

if there's one conclusion that the study of both labor history and imperialism converge on, it is that the richest people in the world are happy to burn money on control, power, impunity. and the "everything is about profit" version of anti-capitalism does not survive serious contact with either
Adding to this thread: it’s a common mistake (I’ve made it myself, many times) to think of the motivations of the capitalist elites as essentially mercantilist: that is, that they are largely still motivated *entirely* by profit and loss, selling product, etc. This has not been true for a while.
It's still smart for Brin. He's worth $240 billion; this tax could theoretically cost him $12 billion. This is a fraction of that.

But *even if the math didn't work for him*, he'd still do it. He'd spend $20 billion to save $1 billion of it came to that, because the numbers aren't the point.

Katalin Karikó is one of the most extraordinary scientific stories of this era.

A girl from a modest Hungarian household helped develop technology that saved millions of lives worldwide.

In 2023, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for discoveries that enabled effective mRNA vaccines.

This is why we need gender based analysis in every conversation.

A corporate data breach or the sharing of voter registry information is annoying for most people but downright lethal for those who must take extreme precaution with their address in order to keep themselves safe.
I am a domestic violence survivor and have had a stalker. I have been very careful to limit who knows my address. Now, thanks to David Parker, who knows who has my address or how many copies of the list of electors has been made. #ableg #abpoli

this is why the anti-trans movement is not some fringe culture war issue. it is fundamentally exterminationist and its current discursive function is to normalize exterminationism by targeting one of the most marginalized and misunderstood groups in our society. it is about mainstreaming genocide
Brianna Wu advocates for the extermination of trans people by engaging in eugenicist selective abortions of fetuses determined to be trans.

A billion dollars is the socio-economic equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work to prevent the acquisition of the former with the same urgency and ruthlessness we use to prevent the acquisition of the latter.
"The rise of extreme wealth is one of the clearest signs of this imbalance. In 1987, billionaires held wealth equal to 3% of global GDP. Today this tiny elite, just 0.0001% of the world population, owns the equivalent of *16%* of world GDP in wealth."
"There is no justification for a regressive system in which the super-rich contribute less than the rest of us," write @josephestiglitz.bsky.social, @gabrielzucman.bsky.social, and @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social.
