I did one of the kindest things I could do for myself last year… I started learning a language for me, and not just because I “should” do it! It’s not even one of the three main classical singing languages! It’s Japanese! It’s great! It’s brought me a lot of joy and satisfying growth!

I’m going back to my home state for the first time since January 2024. The last time I was there I was still working at a job where I was disliked, unwanted, and seen as a problem. I’ve come out the other side but I feel like an entirely different person since I last went back.

This is why I’ve always been unnerved by the recent turn in popular feminist rhetoric to be more SWERF and sex-negative. It’s easier to push people to accept right-wing ideas if you push progressive culture to find depiction of sexuality “cringe”.

“banning pornography” is bad on its own but it is imperative that everyone understand that these people consider the very existence of queer people to be pornographic
