He just wasn’t there and the relationship degraded. In a divorce (here anyway) $ starts at 50% split then shifts based on childcare (asset split AND support). She didn’t work, he did, had to keep working at that level. He’s still in love so didn’t drag her through court. Pretty common scenario.
