This is a very cool study I have written about for @newscientist.com

Adult chimpanzees have been observed passing tools to their younger relatives, helping them learn the skills needed for fishing for ants or algae 🧪

And another new paper!

We report the first evidence of baobab pounding in Dindefelo, Senegal, a chimpanzee proto-tool use behaviour that occurs in the West African savanna.

New evidence of baobab (Adansonia digitata) pounding by western chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes verus) - Primates
Percussive technology in wild chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) shows significant behavioral variation across Africa. An example is baobab (Adansonia digitata) fruit pounding, which is only known to occur...

New paper alert!

Although savanna chimpanzees in Dindefelo (Senegal) exhibit unique strategies to find army ants...

We found that chimpanzee strategies to eat these ants do not differ in savannas compared to forests but rather depend on ant species' behaviour.

Variation in army ant consumption strategies highlights cultural differences between chimpanzee communities in forest habitats. Since these strategies have not been studied in detail in savannas, vari...
