Electricity is 23% of global final energy but delivers 37% of useful energy and powers 46% of the global economy.

We don't need to replace every fossil joule. We need to replace the services. A much smaller task.

Great to see the @iea.org’s new Electrification report finally measure this.

I keep sayin' that the economics of solar would/might save us. Better to hear it from someone with street cred. Please send this TED talk to everyone you know. Tell any and all politicians that they need to get on board. Don't fire up coal, gas, or nuclear—solar/wind is the only way.

This is an important deep dive into energy pricing.

"If we want clean electricity to translate into clean heat, clean industry and clean transport, the wholesale market is doing most of its job. The retail market mostly isn’t. That’s the policy problem worth focusing on."
NEW ANALYSIS: Do renewables make electricity cheaper or more expensive?

I pulled together wholesale and retail data across Europe and the US.

Wholesale prices track gas exposure, not renewables share.

Retail prices barely track either. Read full piece👇

Do renewables make electricity cheaper or more expensive?
The honest answer is: it depends on what you measure, and where you look.

The 80-year recipe stoking America’s Prosperity:

1) Free-market capital investments in brilliant ideas…
2) enabled by Engineering Innovations…
3) based on Science Research in Universities…
4) funded by Grants from the US Government.

It’s time more people understood this.

One of grants frozen at Cornell: $6.7M (4 yrs) to develop heart pumps for babies born w/ heart defects.

It took decades of work to get to point of prepping device for in-human clinical trials. No private company could do this.

The cruelty of the Trump administration is heartbreaking. So to speak.

In space, Venus flanks Earth on the left, with a hellfire greenhouse effect. Mars on the right, which long ago had running water. Today, it's bone dry. Something bad happened on each planet.

Seems like the wrong time to limit the Nation’s capacity to conduct climate research.

A reminder that Los Angeles had its hottest summer in history last year. Southern California has received just 2% of "normal" rainfall during the current "rainy" season.

These fires are a direct result of a warming & drying atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels.

We are in a climate emergency.
