Unexpectedly emotional.
He seems to be on the JK Rowling trajectory, previously well-liked and respected person faces criticism for a bad decision/take and then continues to dig their heels in until infinity.

The people who advocated for Dr Randa’s removal knew this would happen. They don’t care about the arts, they are only interested in wielding soft power. If they can’t use the arts to further their agendas, they will happily destroy them.
Adelaide Writers Week is officially cancelled, with all remaining board members stepping down. This is a travesty. Not only did they refuse to reverse course and save the festival, they “apologised” to Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah… and then once again tried to justify their decision by citing Bondi.

Every day we cede more of the territory of our souls to brutality. Shame on these institutions.
Absolutely disgraceful from the Adelaide Festival.
I hope other participants reconsider their part in it.

Anderson has made some of the most incisive political art of our age.
The photos of those Haitian refugees was his first big break, as they earned him the Robert Capa Gold Medal award, which catapulted his career. But at the moment he took the images, he and the other men on the boat thought they were going to die.

He had this to say about the experience:

Trying to look at the brave people who stepped in to help, trying to look at the first responders, trying to look at the lines of people at the blood banks. Trying to see light and grace, and people coming together, and not letting despair and division win.
This entire weekend

Don’t remember much of the semester of Latin I did at uni, but the phrase “sic semper tyrannis” randomly popped into my head today. Randomly…not related to anything at all…

Peoples lack of ability for nuance rearing its ugly head again with the Louvre heist. I guess we’ve decided museums = bad, so robbers stealing cultural history to fund crime/sell to billionaires = good? I mean I love a good art heist film just as much as the next guy but c’mon!

Australian art institutions continue to completely undermine their credibility. Bleak stuff.
EXCLUSIVE: Two Palestinian flags on a tapestry on display at the National Gallery of Australia have been concealed with white fabric, in what the artists have described as an act of censorship they only agreed to reluctantly.

I thought as I got older I would become more hardened, cynical, unmoved. Only to find that I am softer, and more sensitive to the horrors of the world than ever.
