Alan's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #ODG, any Owl, Duck or Goose, so here's another goose pic.
Goose stands upright, head up, facing left, its eye on the viewer. The goose has a pale orange beak and feet, it's head has a brown band over its eye and a white circle on its cheek. It's long neck is brown, it's chest white with slight brown banding which becomes more pronounced over its back. Its tail is brown, darkening towards the ends. It's a fine looking bird, standing in a hard surfaced park in from of green grass.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is:
#ABCD, any bird name beginning with any of these letters. We watched these Black Headed Gulls, during one of the heatwaves, skimming the surface of a lake, presumably fishing (this is just one, they were all at it). Then congregating afterwards on a tree.
A gull flies just above a lake, its wings both fully raised upwards as it gains height after skimming the surface. The water of the lake is browny green but is marked white where the gull briefly struck the surface. The lake is framed by green trees and an orange coloured buildin, reflected in the water. This was at National Trust landscaped gardens at Stowe, Bucks, during July heatwave. 8 blackheads Gulls sit on a large dead branch resting in the water of a lake which is framed with green foliage.

For Helen's #BirdOfTheDay theme, #BirdNaps Any bird caught snoozing, napping or just looking incredibly sleepy, I've posted this before, but as it doubly fits the bill, here's two Greylag Geese, synchronised napping.
Two white Geese napping, in identical poses, each stood on its orange left leg, with its head tucked backwards, under its wing. The form one legged, round white shapes, one at bottom left and one top right. They stand on green grass, with a band of beige pathway cutting across from left to right.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme Alt. is #Thrushes; any bird from the thrush family, this is, I think, a Mistle Thrush seen in our local wood, busying about, foraging on the forest floor.

White swam sitting on ice. Ice is a brownish colour. Swan has its head turned backwards and tucked under wing, with just black and orange beak showing. Is otherwise completely white and is reflected in the ice.

#Parenting; the local Canada Geese have maintained constant, feisty, vigilance over their young, as they have grown iver the summer,even while this has tied them to area with a decreasing availability of grass, because of the drought. Flight feathers are now coming through!

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestOfTheMonth I spend a lot of time watching the Geese at our local lake, so was curious to see the impact of the partial solar eclipse on their behaviour. Here's the adults who don't have young, flying off as the eclipse passed.

#Birdoftheday alt today is #BirdNameG any bird starting with the letter G, a juvenile Greylay Gosling, with hybrid feather markings, walking across the arid grassland, around our local lake.
Juvenile goose, with orange beak and feet, white body with grey markings to wing and head, feathers still downy. Walking with one foot off the ground, directly to camera across dry sparse grassland which is mainly brown.

Seven very young Mallard ducklings swim in front and to right of adult female. On water which is a bright blue with ripples of grey. The ducklings are swimming into a patch of bright green already.

For today's #BirdOfTheDayTheme , #AtOneWithNature, celebrating birds in their natural environment, here's the effects of the partial eclipse on our local Geese, who took to the safety of the water as the sky darkened, then flew off as it passed.
Several Canada Geese take to the water a small lake, one with wings outstretched, splashing about. They head for the island where they are safe overnight. The sunlight, affected by the eclipse, casts a yellow glow on the willow tree, which is reflected in the lake. Just before partial eclipse reached its maximum. At maximum partial eclipse, the lake reflects a darkened, pinkish sky and the trees surrounding it. The Canada Geese are on the water and Gulls are circling overhead, though you have to zoom in. Canada Geese Mill out on the lake as the partial eclipse passes its maximum. Eerie yellow light shines on the trees around the lake, reflected in the water. 11 Canada Geese take flight, wings outstretched, heading upwards as the eclipse passes. They fly into a light blue sky, above a hedgerow of green trees

For this week's #StunDay, sharing this incredible cloud formation, which was reflecting the sunset, on the rare day this week that we were one the edge of a band of light rain. Taken by my son, through the windscreen of our moving car.
