I'd love to credit whoever wrote this. No idea.
But I'm 100% with its message.
When I think of how the '80s ethos, "Greed is Good" has metastasized, it surprises and depresses me.
Imagine having so many millions, hundred of millions, even billions & caring about nothing except your own vanity.
But I'm 100% with its message.

A hill I will die on:
The purpose of the humanities is to study and think about what it means to be human. The decline of the humanities is the decline of humanity.

What does a university have that Google cannot offer its workers? Art History departments, Classics departments, History departments, Music Theory, etc. The humanities are what distinguishes universities in an AI economy. Universities defunding the humanities are digging their own graves.

More relevant than ever.

More relevant than ever.
This is what I’ve been saying for years and years! I’m biased of course, but I think singing is one of the most joyful things a person can do, and I think community choirs are a way to change the world. Music-making is good for your body and spirit. #music #educator #makemusicnotwar
Making music — even if you aren’t especially good at it — can still be good for you.
Music has the power to soothe the mind, promote brain health and bring people closer together, research has shown.

Why singing is good for your brain, even if you are no Beyoncé
Music has the power to soothe the mind, promote brain health and bring people closer together. Singing, listening to music or making music all promote health.

There’s no silver bullet, but ranked-choice and compulsory voting would go a long way toward making positive changes.
one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

If you can’t hide the secret, feature it. Need to steal a coin from your pocket? Dipping in looks suspicious. So make it deliberate. Reach in openly, emerge holding a handkerchief. All eyes are on the cloth; no one sees the coin now in your palm. You can steal anything this way. Even a government.

Working 80 hours a week *for free* to help the richest guy in the world fire a bunch of people making like $70k/yr is a more antisocial behavioral trait than most of what you would see in the average American prison.
The plan is for a cohort of unpaid, unofficial volunteers to live within federal agencies for six months, working 80 hours per week on undefined tasks, conspire with one another on Signal, and get nearly everyone around them fired. It doesn’t sound fully baked to me. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/12/u...

I’ve been thinking about Sufjan all day, completely heartbroken. He finally comes out… by sharing that his partner died six months ago. There’s nothing to say, except thank you for sharing your music and your Self with us, Sufjan. I love you. XOS

I love cooler weather and all, but we are on day five of grey rainy skies and I already feel like I’m staring down the barrel of six months of winter, unsure how I’m going to make it to spring. Anyway, happy autumn! 💀

My cat is the best cat. Also your cat is the best cat. I don’t really understand it but it’s just science.
