Mark Carney is incredibly popular in Quebec, and a large majority of Quebecers don’t want a referendum.

Regardless of what happens tonignt, this election should’ve been a layup for the Quebec Liberal Party.

“Why isn’t ‘You can’t threaten us if you want free trade’ not the prerequisite agreement for any free trade talks between Canada and the United States?”
Any Canada-U.S. trade deal needs an anti-annexation clause
Any new trade deal between Canada and U.S. should require the American to sign a binding anti-annexation clause.

A country unmoored by military invasion. A young girl on the run with a talking goose. A myth-flavoured narrative with an underlay of current realities. A literary MacGuffin. Heather O’Neill’s The Capital of Dreams is immersive and elliptical and enchanting.

My favourite sign from yesterday’s protest against the CAQ. A gov’t unable to see Muslim women who choose to wear the hijab as complex individuals possessing their own autonomy. Always treated as docile victims or demonized vectors of religious extremism. Never just ppl making their own decisions.

Toula nails it: "By preventing any hypothetical women forced to wear religious symbols from attaining an education or a job, the government is not only sabotaging their integration but also dooming them to an existence it claims it wants to protect them from: fully reliant on their oppressors."
Despite what the bill’s supporters claim, true secularism doesn’t seek the erasure of religion from the public sphere, but protects religious minorities from any state-imposed religion.

Quebec's Bill 9 is legalized discrimination
The government of Quebec tabled a new secularism bill today aiming to build on Bill 21 — more legalized discrimination from the CAQ.
