Hello Thursday! It’s rehearsal day!

We have just 3 Thursday rehearsals left before our 20th Century & Beyond concert on 9th May. We’ll be continuing our good work from last week, rehearsing back in the wonderful acoustics of the church.

Born in 1900, Copland was an American composer.

Rodeo is a ballet which opens with Buckaroo Holiday and concludes with Hoe-Down, an energetic piece which ends with a fanfare. SBMS will be playing these two pieces on 9 May at the next concert, 20th Century & Beyond.

Born in 1900, Copland was an American composer. His best known works were composed in the 1930s and 40s. Variations on a Shaker Melody was composed for his ballet Appalachian Spring using the Shaker tune Simple Gifts.

With Shostakovich Symphony No.1 being too expensive for us to perform, we needed a replacement work.

We’re pleased to reveal that SBMS will be performing Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf!

7:30pm on 9 May.

We’re sorry to announce we won’t be playing Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 1.

Due to UK copyright laws, we’d have to pay over £500 to hire the score to perform the work. As a not-for-profit and community group, this is a cost we can’t absorb.

We have something else in its place. Stay tuned for news!

Danny Elfman, born 1953, is an American film composer.

He was co-composer for Avengers: Age of Ultron. He took the original theme which Silvestri composed for the first film to create a new hybrid theme.

Dukas was a French composer. Due to self-criticism, many scores were destroyed or abandoned.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice, was made famous by Disney's ‘40s film, 'Fantasia'.

SBMS will be performing The Sorcerer's Apprentice on 7th Feb at St Botolph's Church.
