It sometimes feels like we're living in a ridiculously exaggerated folk tale with wildly implausible villains. For example, as the president takes billions for himself and his family and *coats his things in gold,* the soldiers fighting his war can't get toothpaste, hot water, or a clean toilet.
Moldy showers and no soap: Military families are outraged by conditions on USS Lincoln
The aircraft carrier's long deployment in the Iran war is raising concerns that the sailors and Marines on board are facing poor conditions, low supplies and fatigue.

I have said publicly or a while that a reporter should ask Trump to comment on Wakanda and say they're pro-tariff and only half-jokingly,

I stand half-vindicated (and with this administration, as I have also said, you cannot make this stuff up):
US government lists fictional nation Wakanda as trade partner
Officials say it was an error to add the fictional nation from Black Panther to the list.

MBS urging Trump against a larger attack on Iran signals that "the Saudis are begrudgingly open to paying tolls to their rival Iran. It’s a serious vote of no confidence in the US-led regional security architecture — a sentiment likely shared in other Arab capitals."
Opinion | Iran’s Hormuz deal with Oman has Trump poised for the big surrender
Nicholas Grossman: Trump started bombing Iran again to keep it from having control over the Strait of Hormuz. That gambit failed — again.

so, to be clear: ICE has been doing neoStarlight Tours, if instead of taking natives a three hour walk out of town in -40° and ditching them there without their personal effects, to kill them, they drove folks hundreds of kilometers away and ditched them without their personal effects, to kill them.
This is the situation ICE is leaving detainees in.

The work is still going to bring people home.
However, because he was detained in South Texas, he was released without any cash or ID at a bus station in San Marcos. The family and I were trying to figure out where he was and how to send him money or buy his bus ticket. I also looked up that a Greyhound trip would be 3 days and 4 transfers.

Reading the FT front page story about a Chinese company introducing a battery with a 1500 km range & six minute recharging time & about how two Chinese companies own more than half of the global EV battery market & I am struck by the different realities the US and China occupy. We’ve lost the plot.

If the estimates were right, there were about 9 million people at No Kings rallies today.

That would mean this protest was THIRTY TIMES AS LARGE AS THE TEA PARTY PROTEST which we were told, over and over again, was a massively important sign that US politics had shifted dramatically to the right
Again, the first Tea Party rallies in April 2009 -- heavily promoted in advance by Fox News -- only had about 300,000 attendees across 750 cities, but the media treated it like the Second American Revolution.

There will be multiple *individual* No Kings rallies today that have more people at them.
There's a long, bad journalistic tradition: All conservative grass-roots political movements are fascinating heartland phenomena, all progressive grass-roots political movements are ineffectual bleating. This one is written off as powered by white female college grads--the wine-moms slur, basically.
