One more thing, direction matters a lot when drawing the explosion, as that should be where your impact lines stretch towards and where you cloud should expand towards.

An explosion is just a massive burst of force, so it should feel forceful and violent.

Typically those are just big orange-white clouds with spikes coming out to represent direction and force, as shown in the stock photo below. However, recent explosions tend to be more like a flash of light, eventually fizzing out into smoke. In extreme simplisticity, they’re basically sharp light.
