The survivors write the history, and in these cases, it's very clear who these siblings prioritized and whose legacies they saw as acceptable sacrifices for their own egos.

But Charlotte, like Richard, cared more about "the brand". That's why Emily and Charlotte are well known, read in schools and have adaptations of their work made over and over.... and Anne is basically a footnote.

Charlotte downplayed Anne as a weak girl who "didn't understand the dark themes she was writing about" when Anne was the most pragmatic and feminist-leaning of her sisters. She wrote honestly about the unsexy & unromantic pain of being attached to a man who was abusive and suffering from addiction.

It reminds me of how Charlotte Brontë was so angry that Anne used their brother as the un-romanticiszed focal point of her novel, The Tentant of Windfell Hall, that she steamrolled Anne's legacy, refusing to let it be reprinted for years after Anne's death.

Everyone who worked on that album knew it was gold but Richard was so controlling and resentful that he killed the record, and only released it over a decade after her death when he could reframe it as an ill-fated side projected; a collection of "goofy" demos.

Gabrielle was a bad mother in the books because she never wanted to be a mother. She was cold and distant. These assholes turner her into a rapist and abuser who uses sex to control and manipulate her own son. Now, all Lestat's bad habits and choices are a woman's fault. Cool.

This shit is character assassination. The show runners tried to spin this as "honoring" and "expanding" Gabrielle when they rewrote her entire personality to turn her into a walking plot device and the source of all Lestat's trauma.
