Some LGBTQ good news! 🎬

Lesbian characters and storylines will be centered in both the forthcoming Broadway play Small Mouth Sounds and in a romantic-comedy titled Honeymoon/Funeral.  Let's go lesbians!

🧵The shape they built for me didn't fit:
I spent years believing that if I documented my experience clearly enough, the right people would see me.

I was wrong about what "the right people" means. And I'm only now processing how much that cost me.

the most vulnerable get lost in noise. not unheard..crushed. months of "follow the rules" got me silence bc regular channels don't stop for you. and here i am in these rooms hoping someone pauses and thinks "wait, i can actually help with this."
depressing.

Some thoughts on what prayer is, might be, even if you don't "believe in God" - and why maybe that's not always what matters-

Flight attendant Jeff Collman was aboard American Airlines Flight 11 on 9/11. 💔

After his death, his longtime partner Keith Bradkowski was denied survivor benefits because he was gay and unable to marry.

Thus began Bradkowski's years-long battle for equality.

this rosh hashanah i went up to the rooftop. sky so blue and clear, birds just flying, and i thought, this is what the new year is supposed to feel like. open. new.
and mostly i just felt the distance. the loneliness. that i'm here and i'm not safe and i don't know what next year looks like.

Hogar {Home}, NCLR’s immigration program, was launched in 1994, the same year the U.S. recognized that immigrants facing persecution on the basis of their sexual orientation could seek protection as refugees and asylees in the United States.

Day 8. I have learned the scary reality of resisting the persecution that when you're trying to survive the injustice, you feel overwhelmed ,exhausted and at times hopeless, and sadly this feeling is exacerbated by the silence of the allies and people who once went through the same

It's scary. Speaking up.
When you are the lone person who disagrees.
Who doesn't follow the Crowd-think.
When you're afraid of being ostracized for your honesty...
Yet you speak your piece regardless...
Because you know you're right.
Stand proud.

I keep thinking I need to be brave. Then I feel like I don't. I just need to be tired enough that the fear gets quieter than the exhaustion.

The system wants me to feel like this is my fault for not having a network, a following, a plan. It's not.

the world is not as dark as it feels sometimes.

Day 7: I've written a short essay on Substack. About the cost of defiance, the struggle, the silence, the constant reminder that "you don't exist , you don't belong" by the system that's supposed to protect the vulnerable, the persecuted.

This is exactly what I'm living. Growing antisemitism in the West normalizes the hostility that already exists in countries like mine.
and it's not just "politics". It tells every Jewish person in a hostile country that there's no one coming.

so,Stop the fight, Give in.

Happy Labor Day!

Thank a union for the day off.

We must ensure the workplace protections unions fought for, extend to ALL workers, including 30,000+ federal judiciary employees nationwide who are EXEMPT (⁉️) from all labor + workplace laws.

Frederick Douglass, 1857:

Those who profess to favor freedom yet deprecate agitation want crops without plowing the ground; they want rain without thunder + lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its waters.

Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.
Nearly half of American families cannot afford basic living expenses. When full-time work leaves you one emergency away from ruin while your employer rakes in billions, the system is fundamentally broken.

There are protests outside the Pittsburgh ICE field office every Friday. But I haven't been over there on a Friday in a while and I just saw at least 75 people, at a completely negligible facility on a completely random Friday.

That's the one thing I can't do myself right now. My email : [email protected], remains my only secure method of contact at this time. Sadly, I can't publicly say much , otherwise it'd have cleared up the context for my cautious approach.

I can't safely make international calls from where I am, surveillance makes it a risk. If you know someone in this field and a phone call is the fastest way to reach them, I'd be grateful if you could call on my behalf and direct them to my email in bio.

I created this account after months of failed private outreach. Public visibility is my protection , it makes silence and disappearance harder. Please keep following, reposting, and liking. Your engagement is accountability, and it helps others find my case.

I suspect that increasing global antisemitism has a lot to do with disregard I faced not just from local bodies but also 30+int'l orgs (human rights, LGBTQ friendly among others). I need US allies, diaspora community to amplify my voice and raise my case to the Jewish officials and legal counsel.

Thanks so much for your suggestions, I'm outside USA, in an extremely antisemitic country hence my fight with local actors for years on top of life long Jew hatred that I've faced from early age, I documented my case, reached out to int'l orgs, faced silence or polite rejections at most.

grew up hearing slurs about my heritage from non-Jews. spent years swallowing those words, believing something was actually wrong with me. took me years to realize: that makes no sense. I don't apologize for who I was born as. full stop.
