A sensation flashes in the back of your mind.

The root instance? “Try and take note of that next time,” she said with a smirk, if coyotes could smirk.

Your heart pounds.

"There *will* be a next time, I'm sure of it, rabbit."

You’ve been caught. Again. The rhythmic swaying from further along your captor felt like… wagging. Little consolation. The breeze rustles your whiskers.

“You were upwind,” the voice came from another coyote that padded out from the trees before you.

Legs kick uselessly at the air as you dangle by the scruff of your neck. Dangling from the jaws of one of the quadrupedal forks. Panting breaths play at your fur and tickle your ears. You can feel just how sharp her fangs are on your scruff, all too aware of just how close they are to your neck.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
The crack of a twig. Your ears swivel in its direction and a heartbeat later your body bounds away in the opposite. Behind you? Were they lying in wait for you to come out? Were there still three of her? Four? Ten? There was no telling wha-

Snap.

You poke your head out of the den, ears upright, and listen for any sound of the pack. Silence save for the breeze in the trees. You hop forward and rear up onto your haunches, peering into the shadows, starlight alone illuminating the forest now.

How many times has she chased you down on one of your outings exploring some other outdoor sim, sending you both tumbling to the ground, tail wagging triumphantly? Plenty. How many times were you able to chase her down? Well, maybe there’s a reason why you’re a rabbit hiding in a burrow right now.

The coyote had somehow caught that fleeting mindset and pulled it out of you. Forked and iterated you until you were the perfect prey animal to chase through the dry pine trees, and you’re thrilled by it.

A game. This is just an elaborate game; it must be.

You dive into a burrow, empty, thankfully. You pin your ears back against your body in the small den and give yourself a moment to catch your breath.

The stargazing rock. You forked- No, you *were* forked, in the moment when thoughts of your previous chases were at the forefront of your mind.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
Yips and howls sound off in the pines behind you, giving chase.

You could leave the sim, or simply quit and merge down, perhaps, but something about the chase thrills you. You’ve never felt so alive as you do now with your life in the balance.

Run.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
You slip through the underbrush more swiftly now, more at home in the terrain now than as the awkward half human half rabbit you were at the start.

Run.

Your up-tree forks again and this time narrowly avoids the incoming third coyote fork. Smaller this time. On all fours. Your new self dashes off into the brush, away from the sounds of struggle. Away from the growing pack of coyotes.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
You struggle, eyes wide, heart pounding as if it could leap out of your chest. Caught. You’ve been caught!

You refuse. You fight. You fork. A copy of your lapine self appears beside you.

The coyote forks in turn and pounces, landing squarely on their back, sending them both to the dirt.

You screech, a sort of animalistic sound that has never escaped you until now. A searing hot sensation in one of your hinds as sharp fangs clamp down. You hobble, weighed down by the added mass of a human sized canine on your thigh, until you both fall to the forest floor.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
You scramble on unfamiliar paws, on unfamiliar terrain. You’ve never had reason to leave the beaten path until now. The predator behind you seems to have no such troubles as you hear its pawsteps, its panting growing ever closer.

The snap of twigs.

The snap of jaws.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
You pick yourself up and break for the trees. The sound of another set of paws thumps on the dirt and gravel behind you. Giving chase. Your heart pounds in your chest. Your pupils dilate.

Run. Run. RUN.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
It pounces forwards at your original instance. You kick away, off the outcropping, tumbling as you hit the ground.

A scream sounds behind you and you are shaken free from your daze. Your long ears swivel. The sound of struggle, the sound of claws on stone and skin.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
Your mind swims, your other paw reaches up to your face and feels your new muzzle, feels your bunny incisor under fluffy, pawpad-less fingers.

"So, you back there," the dusty creature growls, "start running."
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
You find yourself fully behind her now, still facing away from you. Your ears perk up at her voice. Your ears perk up? You quickly reach up with one… paw? And feel soft, elongated shapes. Your ears. Rabbit ears?
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
You try to stammer out a “what?”, but the feeling is all wrong, the sound is jumbled, as though its coming out of a mouth that’s not your own, not-

Blink.

“The part of you that *wants* to be chased.”
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
“All I had to do was see if I could pull out that fire inside of you. That piece of you that so desperately wants to run away.”

Your vision blinks again. Another shift, almost behind the coyote. There’s another figure in front of her. Another *you*.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
“I wanted to see if I could make that a bit more interesting.”

You blink and you are looking at the lanky critter from practically side on. She’s talking, but she’s not looking at you. You feel a bit… itchy all over-
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
Glowing eyes stare at you- no, *through* you, into you. You blink... the scruffy canine's gaze remains intense. You blink again, and this time realize something is wrong... something is different. You’re looking at the coyote from a different angle. You didn’t move, not that you remembered.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
You gulp, a lump growing in your throat. Your host’s ears swivel forward, her gaze settles on you, eyes shining in the low light as the last embers of the setting sun crawl beneath the horizon. Something inside you began to squirm under the watchful gaze.
August 21, 2026 at 6:09 AM
“Do you remember those hikes where we would challenge each other to a chase? Running off down the trail with the other hot on your tail?”
