By sheer coincidence my kids when they were younger absolutely adored the episode of Sooty he was in a big wig from an Ice Cream magazine, whether safe to say John got the memo and played the role to a tee.

His third from last IMDB credit, as well as the final episode of Sooty that ITV broadcast.

The only ITV programme I recall that was a co-production between Granada and Thames.

Granted, not Thames of old, but mad it took until 2005 for that to happen.
#OnThisDay 2005 : The first edition of Ant & Dec's Gameshow Marathon was broadcast on ITV.

Gameshows covered included The Price Is Right, Bullseye, Sale Of The Century, Play Your Cards Right and Take Your Pick.

Channel 4 shows a red triangle at the start of and during films with adult themes. The first use of the warning is for the film Themroc, aired on this day. This method of identification is phased out within a year.

Five weeks in, and the Premier League is having one of those weeks already. All top teams losing or lost already.

I’ll hold my breath until tomorrow though.

Bloody hell Spurs just scored, and then VAR ruled it out.

Good stuff. Tommy Boyd taking about what turned out to be Eric Morecambe's last tv appearance.

Us United fans don’t need to be reminded that Ratcliffe is a twat, and INEOS can’t run a piss up in a brewery for all of its sports operations.

But it’s the UK that’s on the slide…

Really don’t know what’s happened to us since the end of last season to now. That was an absolute fucking disgrace tonight.

I really don’t want to say this, but I think Carrick’s gone by Christmas at this rate, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Wilcox and Barrada follow him out the door too. #MUFC
Spoke far too soon. Same old shite, normal service has resumed.
I know it’s B squads all round… but where were you on Sunday afternoon United?!? #MUFC

Not forgetting that TV-am losing its franchise was the closest thing we ever got to an apology from Thatcher. Only because her mate’s franchise wasn’t renewed.

And we’re all still living the consequences of the legislation and all other aspects of Thatcherism.
The genesis of all that is wrong with the UK can be traced back to the Broadcasting Act 1990. And I’m being deadly serious.

When in November 2024 the ginger pube gate crashed Ruben Amorim’s first interview as then Man Utd manager and made it all about himself, I thought was a prick.

Nice to see my view hasn’t changed since then.

I’m all for choice, I’m all for the Welsh language but this was a real non starter. Especially when Granada/ABC was easily watchable in a good chunk of your broadcast area.
Happy 64th birthday to the weirdest ITV franchise of the lot.

There can’t be many people either whose careers tanked after going from ITV to the BBC.
This is a good read. Easy to forget how much Hale and Pace went into obscurity once their BBC deal ended.

Would be fascinated to know what happened behind the scenes here, it was on the shelf for ages, shown in a slot they had never used for comedy before or since, in a weird forty minute duration and clearly very heavily edited to the extent they didn't say hello at the start or goodbye at the end

Just had a glance at the EPG right now and I can’t remember the last time that Match of the Day was the final programme on BBC1 for the night.

Yes they don’t closedown, but there’s always something on after. Tonight it’s just weather and then the NC.

Salford live until 12.40 and then again at 6.

As a United fan in terms of known sponsorships, we definitely peaked with Sharp.
I love that Hull's sleeve sponsor is McVitie's as it's a rare example in the Premier League of a sponsor you've heard of

Just caught up on #SNLUK on delay. Very strong start to Series 2. It was great to see Jeff Goldblum on board and getting it. Also didn’t expect Jeff to mention sunny old Warrington in his opening song.

Fouracres does an excellent Burnham. Long may that continue.
