Take a break from being depressed that everything you love is being destroyed by slop for a moment and let me tell you about the beautiful symbiotic relationship between graffiti writers, train yard workers, and model train enthusiasts.

Not begrudgingly in any way at all.
We are continually forced to begrudgingly admit that Tolkien simply was one of the best to ever do it.

Much like Gordon Moore himself, the eponymous Law appears to now actually be dead. And not in the good way. It was nice while it lasted, at least. Might stave off the AI apocalypse for a couple of years at any rate.

Never forget, fanfic is worse than furries.
People bemoan the idea of a post-literate society. I think it can't come soon enough.
It might lead them down a dark path...

While a Google fail is always funny, the hand-wringing in this article did make me roll my eyes somewhat.
NEW: Google's AI Overviews are treating entities from the SCP Foundation — the famously fake fan-fiction universe — as if they're real.

The AI feature often contextualizes SCP entities as actual discoveries while describing made-up SCP records as "official" documents.

Everyone who defended/championed the Online Safety Act “for the children” has deliberately facilitated this slippery slope. Authoritarians of all shades never think “this is enough let’s stop here”.
🚨 First the social media ban, now the government wants to restrict VPNs 🚨

VPNs are a vital cybersecurity tool for businesses, politicians, journalists and families to protect data and communications.

Banning or age-gating VPNs would increase cybercrime risks and expose IP addresses to predators.

They really love the Nanny State stuff don’t they? Which I would respect more if they didn’t farm out the technology to the worst companies.

I think the discourse around this (especially from misleading infographics) is overblown regardless of context. Even to cherry pick, if you are completing 64% more features (how I interpret errors) with 54% more “bugs” that’s fewer bugs per feature!
"We're shipping so much more code with AI!"

"Good, stable code?"

"Oh heavens no. No no no. not at all. We couldn't possibly"

This has been bothering me and I think I know why. Taken at surface level, yes content designed solely for engagement obfuscates. But “dispensing information” is not the same as “gaining understanding”. There’s a reason education is not just reading books.
the main problem with video as a format is that it's too slow at dispensing information. I can read much faster than you can talk and there's no way you can address this without becoming incomprehensible to most of the audience.

Some kind of boomer move to have nostalgia for the concept of mass-market TV advertising. Sturgeon’s Law cuts both ways, whatever you think of a fracturing of common cultural experience. Bring back folk music and travelling troubadours I say!

I feel politically homeless atm - ideology has replaced belief in material reality, leaders follow instead of leading, status quo revered v change of any kind, short termism can’t even last a news cycle - collectively humans can do great good, but we are represented by individuals who do great harm
