1/ The billing sounds amazing: A 2026 constitutional amendment to abolish property taxes in Ohio. Sounds like pure dessert, right? More money in ue pocket. No more property tax bills. But wait until you see the legal vegetables hiding in the fine print 🧵👇 #DV1 #ProudBlue #Voices4Victory #USDemocracy

Predicting that this week we’ll hear more conciliatory words from the Administration regarding Minnesota (since they’re starting to realize that ICE has become politically toxic) but everyone outside of Minnesota needs to know that nothing on the ground has changed.

I continue to wonder when Americans will decide enough is enough. As Frederick Douglass reminds us:

“The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”

Does the Speaker of the House know what's going on in the country?

It's not clear that he does, as Mike Johnson's communication strategy seems to rely heavily on being unaware.

When faced with questions he should be able to answer, he has a reliable response: "I don't know."

1/3 Listen to Masha Gessen, a journalist & expert on authoritarianism, warn we are entering “the most dangerous phase” normalization in the decline of democracy.

This is the stage when repeated violations of democratic norms—actions that once shocked us—become part of everyday life.

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence.

They are in charge.

I’m still baffled at how America took one of the basic principles of the presidency — the occupant shouldn’t be able to benefit financially from the office — and just said, nah, that just doesn’t count for this one guy.

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

Dear US senators: You can ABSOLUTELY say you're voting against these nominees before their hearings. You'll save yourself some grief and us a lot of time. There are no norms here to uphold; don't pretend they're in any way qualified or valid candidates. Just say you're not voting for them. Thanks.

Cannot stop thinking about how Octavia Butler wrote a book in 1993 about climate change. It opens with deadly fires in LA in 2025. In the story, a fascist President has just won office with the campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."

She was a modern day Nostradamus. If only we'd listened.

If you understand that the only even _theoretical_ check on the coming presidency, which will be the first presidency without any guardrails whatsoever, is the U.S. military, you understand why Trump has said he will go to the mat for—more than any other Cabinet pick—Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.
