I think it’s safe to say, our representing government started a war with Iran knowing it was going to have a catastrophic toll on US.

FIFA and the U.S. thought that by humiliating  Iran in the World Cup and making their logistics difficult, would turn the world against them. Instead, the amount of support they received throughout this tournament is unprecedented.
