While that’s the law, a good defense lawyer will take her story apart because she will not be able to provide details that place specific defendants in specific places at specific times. As a juror, I’ve seen them do this kind of defense well - adds just enough uncertainty to force acquittal.

I worry because the young woman was so out of it during the entire night that the defense attorneys will be able to convince a jury that she has no idea what happened. I am not saying it’s right, but I’ve served on juries and know how good they can be at establishing doubt about a crime.

Maybe some are, but it’s the not the norm in families with members scattered across the country and leading very different lives. My cousins all live 3,000 miles from me, and one of my siblings is 600 miles away.

No one dies of cholera in the US any more, but it’s still “out there.” So are diphtheria, pertussis, and other killer diseases. They don’t usually kill us because we’re vaccinated, although babies too young for vaccines have indeed died in the US from pertussis recently.
