It's TIME! TO! GET! HYPE!

Today, I get to proudly unveil Steam Hype, the project I've been working on with the help of @hookshot.media for the past two and a half months.

A new PC gaming site which aims to demystify PC gaming, cut through the 100+ daily releases and spotlight indies as much as AAA
Steam Hype
Steam Hype is your go-to destination for discovering the latest, greatest, and most talked-about games on Steam.

A great writer on a great site! Congrats! She's one of the best things at RPS.
Update: enough people have subscribed that we can now have Sin Vega as a regular columnist! More words await in the wings, if you have yet to sign up.
Here are Jank's subscriber goals. It's simple - the more people join, the more writers we let out of their cages.

Ah man, they're doing a huge museum exhibit about Chinese single-player games in Shanghai!

Look at that giant wall of games the West knows nothing about! How I wish I could visit! D:

Only issue is that it's a political statement as well, since many (if not most) of those games are from Taiwan...

There's this excellent book called "Counterfeit Itineraries in the Global South: The human consequences of piracy in China and Brazil" by Rosana Pinheiro-Machado, it captures the moment in the late 90s when the US went hard on Chinese products and started a "War on Piracy".

It's quite eye-opening.

Some banger games in here, all to support those people recently laid off and struggling to stay afloat.

A Short Hike, Arranger, Atomic Owl, Cycle, Dead Finger Dice, Elephantasy Flipside, Horizon Vanguard, Lucah: Born Of A Dream, Magenta Horizon, Nekomancer of Nowhere, Psychroma, Skatebir and more.
In response to the unprecedented number of game developers laid off this year, we have created a bundle on itch to benefit a Game Industry Hardship Fund, managed by @videogameworkers.bsky.social. More than 100 games for 10+ bucks! Please share widely and donate generously!

Lastest @romchip.bsky.social has a really interesting article on Chinese game history, giving an overview + a feminist perspective:

It's great to get articles in English from outside the usual US-center perspective & its citations are a great source for further reading!

I've picked up a whole bunch of followers these past couple weeks, it seems, so a reminder that I maintain (irregularly) a big list of Notable Free PC Games. Mostly beefy ones

Games are expensive. The economy is terrible. If you've got a halfway functional PC, you WILL find something great in here.

if you won't listen to me, listen to them!! and then watch Koki Mitani's Furuhata Ninzaburo like i said in my video!!
If you're feeling down and need something to lift your spirits, I can recommend "Welcome Back, Mr. McDonald", a very sincere, feel-good comedy with some appreciated nuance. Handily, the whole thing's on Youtube (for now).
