ASD, possibly ADHD survivor just sharing my likes and obsessions. I like to focus on a good first season rather than be convinced of a show's Schrödinger's Good Season later down the road.

Also way too empathic towards Robots 🤖

"why are liberals so on edge about voting abstention?"

because if people show up for progressive candidates but not for centrist candidates it'll require them to admit they were wrong, which they hate more than losing

Remember when Alberta authorized a 28 year old for Assisted Dying when all she had was autism and ADHD.

This is a eugenics program, that they push onto anyone they deem undesirable.
When disabled people oppose Assisted Dying, it’s almost never from a religious point of view.

It’s not because we’re anti-choice or that we want to force people to suffer.

We oppose it because society devalues disabled lives and uses these programs in an unethical manner.

They become eugenics. 🧵

'...it’s not that public opinion shifted, it’s that billionaires started pumping out negative propaganda against trans people.'

That's the key. Telling bigots that they're heroes for being shitty to people who don't need any more shit in their lives was the game-changer.

Such an amazing misunderstanding of the Vietnam era protests, which were fueled by an insistence that the North Vietnamese had never done anything to attack America or Americans.

Waging a terrorist attack that targeted civilians made that kind of attitude completely impossible.
This piece was fascinating, getting at a point I'd never considered: bin-Laden's entire concept about what 9/11 would do to America was just... wrong. www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...

Speaking as someone who was there in the early 2000s, blogs weren't slop. Some of them were CRAP, but it was all HUMAN-MADE.

The equivalent of "A.i." slop back then was the SPAM in blog COMMENTS. That was industrialized, automated, scammy bullshit -- just like generative "A.i." now.

This is how Reagan privatization/austerity was able to succeed but I honestly don't know that I believe Trumpian wholesale destruction is gonna get the same benefit of the doubt.

It's setting us up for rapidly cascading failures that will be much more difficult to blame on individuals.
The cruel part is that missing capacity gets mistaken for personal bad luck: a delayed benefit, an uninspected building, a closed clinic. The system fails one person at a time, so the political failure stays hard to see.

In case this wasn’t obvious, a core reason I talk about USAID and Elon Musk’s historically-hideous mass murdering actions all the time is because he must not be allowed to get away with it.
The neat thing for Elon Musk about mass-murdering the global poor he’s convinced are out to get him:

Since he’s doing it via the mechanism of killing USAID and not by personally shoving them into death camps, it’s thus just abstract enough that he’s bargaining he’ll be allowed to get away with it.

USA, you're fucking dreaming. The cost isn't rooted in finance but fear.

I am desperate to see friends in Los Angeles and New York. The risk of it all (threats of occupation and assimilation while engaging in an economic war, plus brutal policing and immigrant hostility) make visits a nonstarter
Over the past year, the number of Canadians visiting the US has dropped 25% compared with 2024. Are discounts enough to lure them back? ft.trib.al/zk0l5Lk

“Consumerism as activism” can be a questionable tactic… but it’s worth noting: if you all see COYOTE VS ACME this weekend and make it a giant hit… you will specifically humiliate David Zaslov and make him miserable… while also seeing an entertaining and heartfelt movie. The definition of win/win.

And this is an excellent case for caregiving to never HAVE to be SOLELY in the hands of relatives or partners. Stress exacerbates existing ways that people clash, and even the kindest relatives can run out of energy or other resources. They can become disabled too.
When you’re chronically ill, there’s nothing worse than depending on someone who doesn’t show up.

When you can’t do your own activities of daily living, you need kind & reliable caregivers.

When they’re erratic, abusive or absent… your mental and physical health suffers.

We deserve better.
