Vermont's Secretary of State still tells you to register as a data broker 1-31 January for $100. Correct until 31 December, wrong from 1 January: Act 138 moves it to within 30 days, then annually by 1 July, at $900 plus a $20,000 bond. Read the act, not the site. (We verify exposure.)

15 September is the first access deadline under California's adopted DROP rules, not a deletion deadline. A broker must access DROP at least every 45 days (7612(a)) and report status at its next access session (7614(a)). A request filed 1 August can lawfully wait until 30 October. Not legal advice.

We wrote to registered brokers at the addresses published there. 33 had no working email path. Two can't receive mail - one Null MX, one a misspelling filed in the registry.

California's first mandatory DROP cycle closes in mid-September. If you filed and heard nothing back, that is the design — brokers report their status to the regulator, never to you.
