Two things happened recently that totally set my teeth on edge...and not in a good way. First, I was asked by an author friend to beta-read a novel from her friend's daughter. "Sure," I said, happy to help a newbie. What was I thinking? It was the first book of a romance series and every trope imaginable was present in the draft.
