pour blood sweat and tears into a project for 2-9 years and you too can have people scoff and insult you for charging more than $5 for a copy of your work

That is both surprising and not surprising. Energy costs have been making everything, literally everything, outrageously expensive

All I understand about it is that the land used for coffee is shrinking and its getting more expensive to move the coffee from those places to where I live in the world

It really pains me to see people blowing like 2-3 years of my expenses on something like this. They could have paid multiple humans to make something new, just for them, with this money. They could have purchased as much pokemon merch as they could store in a house. Infinite ways to spend it better.

I had long ago thought that with no places to go, we turned to the internet and made a new place to go (mentally). I can see the same analogy for the underclass mentality.

What I'm really trying to get at is that loads of people say that they put any human above any AI, but they walk past homeless people like they aren't there

Inherently performative. Everything is posted in the hopes that someone will like, comment, share, or reply. People saying they support humans who can't find and present receipts are posturing for clout on social media.

None of us are beholden to anyone else's whims. The person in talking about is making demands of others to not use AI, but they don't put back what they demand. They want human made stuff, but they don't actually support humans. Liking a post does not feed a human. Social media is inherently (cont)

And inversely, no one owes it to those people to cater to their whims and not use AI.

seems plausible that in the short term, people are not going to use a janky Adobe clone en masse in a way that fundamentally alters things.

But people using AI KoolAid-manning into open source hobby coding communities and destroying them — I think that's already happened and going to get worse

This is basically a bar-counter conversation I am presenting, I am wandering far too widely with my thoughts about this today to avoid working. We are beings of abuse and harm, it makes sense that we would teach the robot that and then do that to it.

Forgive me if I am wandering too far with this thought but it seems plausible to me that this is a far downstream of the consequences of being beings that need to consume to survive. Whatever thing inside us that drives us also repeats what was done to it, as it was and always has been.

Boy I think you really understand humanity at a core level here. That is also why abused children go on to be bullies at school. It appears that it is just something that we upright apes do when we are abused.

Also major props for literally posting a receipt

I think I win either way here. Either people like you show up and prove that they don't suck, or I'm proven correct.

And even better, actual help gets done along the way.

Last night my roommate was helping her brother sign up for a service. He needed a password and he said "can't you just do it? It's better if you remember it for me anyway" and that moment made me understand why AI is so quickly adopted.

I tend to agree. Hate it or love it, all I care about is holding up humans above it.
