CONGRATULATIONS to Dr. Rion Iwasaki who successfully defended his dissertation! Rion examined tongue movement during so-called devoiced high vowels in Tokyo Japanese. The study proves devoiced /i/ and /u/ are contrastive in both acoustic and articulatory domains.
