I was lucky enough to not be a carrier but the ones I met were expected to finish a 10 hour route in 6 hours weather not being a concern. They'd be in at 7am, out by 7pm or even later, and back again 7am the next morning. 8 hour rule was stretched to the bone

Usps would definitely benefit from being overhauled into being employee owned like WinCo or something similar. The older folk I've met love their positions and I feel like they'd be better at management than the younger people with no experience sitting in a chair behind a computer

Career boils to benefits, stable schedule and time off, and higher pay. I made career within a month of starting, bumped from $17hr to $25 overnight. But knew people who'd been there for years and were still gaining raises in 25¢ increments. I'm ok with higher costs if it means better conditions

If I recall correctly, it slightly went up a few years ago and people complained. Usps also doesn't have permanent employees unless they get to "career" it can take years, but every year you don't make career you're basically reset as if you just started

You're right, cost shouldn't go up. But it has to in order to provide a liveable wage for employees. The fact that the starting wage has been the same since I first started around 2019 is embarrassing.

Economy would fall to shit if the USPS was privatized. Try sending a package to the next city over and it costs almost $40+ through FedEx/UPS. The postal service gets the job done in 3 days and charges a third if not less the cost.

Considering Amazon offloads a huge chunk of their deliveries to USPS, they can certainly afford to pay more for their prime delivery that they have USPS do. Because $17hr for the past 6 years is a joke while half our workload was Amazon and other 3rd party parcel services

My right shoulder is fucked from being a clerk and working 16 hours days during the holidays. And I thought of reapplying because I genuinely enjoyed the job. The starting pay is still the same as it was in 2019....despite the workload increasing.

Tbh most of our "bonuses" came from filing grievances towards the shitty management that sat around and did nothing. Working 7 days in a row meanwhile those shit holes would be comfy working 4 day weeks

I worked for the USPS for about 4 years. It shouldn't be a for profit company but people shouldn't bitch about shipping prices going up when it's employees are severely underpaid. I met so many people with injuries developed during the years of carrying heavy parcels who were paid a McDonalds salary
