"It still works, so it's fine."

Until it isn't. Tech debt doesn't crash your site — it just quietly taxes every feature you try to ship next.

The Real Cost of Tech Debt for Growing Businesses
The website that launched your business isn’t the same one that needs to run it today. Here’s what tech debt actually costs a growing brand — and how to know when it’s time to rebuild, not patch.

PDFs are a terrible way to serve a restaurant menu. But when it comes to dietary and allergen data, getting the web model wrong can literally put a customer in hospital.

From PDF to Postgres: Rebuilding the Restaurant Menu

Most of what we build at studio:sc® runs on SvelteKit. Here's why:

– No virtual DOM overhead.
– No framework runtime.
– Just compiled, surgical JavaScript.

We've written up the full case for it on our blog: smith-cordell.com/blog/sveltekit

Why We Choose SvelteKit to Deliver Ultra-Fast Web Apps for Our Clients
At Studio Smith-Cordell, the framework you've never heard a client ask for by name is often the one doing the most work. Here's why SvelteKit is the foundation of nearly everything we build.

Most articles about Schema[dot]org structured data stop at "add it for rich snippets". That's like buying a filing cabinet and only ever using the top drawer.

Beyond Rich Snippets: Why Schema.org Is a Semantic Layer, Not Just an SEO Trick
Most advice on Schema.org structured data starts and ends with rich snippets; get the star ratings, get the FAQ dropdown, move on. That undersells what structured data actually does. Used properly, it...

"We'll deal with accessibility eventually" is becoming a much riskier position for digital brands to hold.

Building Accessible Websites Isn't Optional Anymore
Accessibility comes up often with clients right now. Partly that's the law catching up with the web. Mostly, though, it's because building for everyone is just better engineering.

Most e-commerce carts make you wait. Click to add an item, and there's a beat before anything happens. Open the same store in two tabs, and neither has any idea what the other is doing. We made a list of issues and fixed them!

Fixing Every E-Commerce Cart Gripe We Could Think Of
There's a familiar list of small annoyances in online shopping carts: laggy updates, out-of-sync tabs, quantity buttons that can't keep up. For Ungarnished's new store, we treated that list as a brief...

Most websites throw away about 25% of the colour your screen can actually show. That's because almost every image on the web is encoded in sRGB. So we made a Display P3 image pipeline with fallbacks.

We’ve all been there: staring at #3A7BD5 and trying to remember whether that’s the blue we wanted, or wrestling with RGB values that bear no resemblance to how we actually perceive colour.

Why OKLCH is the Future of Colour in CSS
After years of working with HEX codes and RGB values, we’ve made the switch to OKLCH for all our colour definitions, and we’re not looking back. Here’s why this modern colour space is transforming how we think about colour on the web.
