I wish someone would give me a six-figure speaking gig to teach them how to build something stupid and expensive which (by my own admission!) doesn’t work
Interesting to see Steve Yegge say he never successfully built anything with Gas Town.

I mentioned not finding these super vibed orchestrators useful because the reliability was too low (w.r.t. completing non-trivial tasks). Turns out the author of the most famous one had the exact same issue.

the tech industry, the fossil fuel industry, and the agriculture industry have so effectively neutered the legislative process that the very idea of, say, a tech privacy bill is psychologically DOA for most Americans.

the datacenter debate feels a little bit like someone claiming that if we just banned private jets, the climate would come around.

like, do I hate private jets, or do I hate the guys who own them? the latter, obviously. but just taxing all those guys wouldn't fix this larger, nuanced problem

Credit monitoring is a useful service if you’ve ever been worried that someone is going to pay off your credit cards without your permission

I am going to be a massive humorless asshole about woo-woo shit, no matter how seemingly harmless, for the rest of my life due to this. astrology, homeopathic medicine, etc etc it's all bullshit and it's not fucking harmless. there are people who will die due to this who would have otherwise lived.

Every few months Anthropic will publish a paper that’s like “Claude is just a pile of math, but sometimes it acts like it has feelings. Can we learn anything interesting from that?” And everyone on this website trips over themselves to get pissed off about what they imagine the article says.

You can learn a lot from video games. For instance, Pokopia has taught me that I need to spend more time walking up to my friends, telling them how much they mean to me, and then handing them some crap I found lying on the ground

I’m not a particularly good driver but no mistake I’ve made has had people angrier at me than simply driving the speed limit
My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

people playing music/videos on their phone speakers in public is more than just mildly annoying and is instead a leading indicator of the decline of community and empath
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I haven't talked about this publicly yet but I got carjacked at gunpoint a few weeks ago. I'm fine, I have insurance, the police found my car last week. Anyway, I was thinking afterward about how much worse it would have gone if I was also armed.

I’m the guy who designed the trucks in Death Stranding. It was my idea not to add roofs even though the rain is incredibly dangerous and the world is full of bandits with guns. I am paid millions of likes a year for my innovations

I’ve been thinking about how easy it would be to build a favstar-like service for this website and debating whether it would be stupid in a funny way or just stupid
