New — I wrote about Republicans beclowning themselves heading into the midterms with clearly bullshit narratives about James Talarico and Rep. Ilhan Omar, and how the favorable conditions for Dems have produced a noticeable shift to nipping deranged stories in the bud.
Why Democrats must keep calling out GOP bullsh*t on sight
Immediately diffusing Republican desperation drastically shortens the life cycle of their clownish ideas.

This is identical to the old complaints that children were getting abortions without parental permission. It's projecting the anxiety of control from fascism and the patriarchal family onto the places where children become individual persons.

I'm always baffled by a certain type of liberal Democrat who just openly goes "Muslim voters didn't vote for Kamala because of a specific political stance, and as such I won't vote for a Muslim simply out of spite" and somehow thinks this is justice and not just them being a racist

NGC 1398’s spiral arms do not begin at its very middle, but stem from a straight bar instead. How many spiral galaxies share this feature?

Tragic news: Curtis Flowers, who faced an extraordinarily ordeal by being prosecuted six times for the same crime by a Mississippi DA over decades before SCOTUS sided with him in 2019, just died at 56.

Flowers' case was core to the 'In the Dark' podcast.
Wrongly imprisoned Curtis Flowers dies
After Flowers was convicted in a sixth trial, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned it and a state judge dismissed capital murder charges against him.

This was the first abortion rights march I ever attended. I made the trip from Montreal to DC to attend: www.history.com/this-day-in-...

People were already saying that Roe was NOT ENOUGH and that it would fall. This was in 1992.

I hate the dismissive way politics-heads talk about lefties having “purity tests” as an insult. It’s such a sneer.

But looked at another way - what it really means is that they have DIFFERENT purity tests.

E.g. if we demand full trans rights, that’s supposedly a purity test. Why?

I've gotten a lot of requests from faculty about how to talk to their students about the Cornell 7. I'll post a few resources I've built over the years that I've heard are the most helpful:

For all that it's been barely reported in the UK press, it's still hard to understate the importance of the stance @labourunionsuk.bsky.social has taken on trans and non-binary rights this week. Every single trade union affiliated to the party of government has stood up and said we will not comply.

My greatest frustrating has been with policy wonks who persist in thinking we can just keep doing normal policy analysis ("calling balls and strikes") in this situation.

The President of the United States is both lawless and out of his mind. That preempts all normal discussion.

This is *the* piece. Kate Manne, professor of philosophy at Cornell, speaks truth to the totality of failures at the university — and why students protesting the war in Gaza have faced far harsher consequences than any of the Cornell 7:

Never sell anyone out.

In fact, if you're asked about banning 12-year-olds from softball, just say, "You're asking me to sell out kids for my political career. I'm not going to do that. Let's stop demonizing people in tougher circumstances than you or I will ever experience. They have guts."

as @joshstein.bsky.social has argued, a good way to make this point would be for the Pope to excommunicate Vance.

Alito too.
Today, I see angry young men online LARPing as Catholics, often for the aesthetic. They celebrate strength and hate the weak. The use slurs against the disabled and fantasize about enacting Crusader violence against their enemies. I wish the Pope would speak directly on this.

"At Cornell University, it turns out that protesting genocide is a removable offense. But meanwhile, drugging, trafficking, and raping a woman is a writing assignment."
This article is for men. Women already know this.

This week a woman filed a civil suit against 7 men at Cornell U for drugging, trafficking, and raping her. Zero have faced criminal charges.

Women are not safe around men. And the data is devastating.
