Everyone is more-or-less free to pursue whatever course they like. That's more than anybody ever really has IRL.

Some places or people might be incredibly dangerous but they all pretty much have giant neon warning signs flashing above them at all times. I've yet to see any "hidden" dangers.

Like yeah some faerie-led band of vagrants might shiv you to death for your boots but hey, sex is a noble and appreciated profession, gender is a day-to-day choice, a shitbox house costs next to nothing and the city could always use more sewer knights.

Sounds like a fun place to live to me.

Gotta say I'm always taken aback a bit when folks describe my little fantasy world as "dystopian". Aside from the crime and the monsters it's got a lot of things going for it:

- Cosmetic magic
- No major religions, no Hell
- Lots of philanthropic programs
- Plenty of work for dum-dums
- No taxes
