Fearing the boats is a projection. The only reason why white Europeans feel they need to “stop the boats”, is because they assume everyone arriving on boats will do what they did when they sailed around the world.

Unfortunately the rise of AI seems inevitable, it’s therefore important to put regulations in place. Yes, these tools can help drive research forward, but like many other regulated pieces of equipment and substances, maybe AI should be considered under the same lens.

A 2000 study that concluded the well-known herbicide glyphosate was safe, widely cited since then, has just been officially disavowed by the journal that published it. The scientists are suspected of having signed a text actually prepared by Monsanto.

Don’t you just love it when authors misunderstand the source they are citing. A misunderstanding that wouldn’t happen if they weren’t oblivious to the history of their own field. Let alone the sentence being completely put of place. A reviewer should have questioned it. But what do I know.

Watched a panel discussion with Nick Lane at @royalsoced.bsky.social today. Got the chance to meet him after! But instead of telling him how cool it is to meet someone my high school biology teacher (in Denmark) recommended I read ten years ago, I panicked and asked a silly science question…
