NEW: Our latest early estimate of Canada’s national emissions shows higher gas use drove up emissions in 2025. But clean electrification can help steer Canada back toward net zero.

Climate-Warming Overshoot: Reducing fossil fuel vs CO2 Removal

“Adaptation takes decades to build, so overshoot-calibrated plans must be designed and implemented now, ahead of impacts.”

Removing CO2 will help “only in addition to, not instead of” fuel reduction.

Export capacity is not their issue. Uncertainty about economic risks and future demand for oil are keeping private companies from investing in a new pipeline.

📉 Total installed costs for battery energy storage have fallen by around 95% since 2010, reaching USD 140/kWh in 2025. Lower costs are making storage more viable to pair with solar & wind power, making renewable power more reliable. More in IRENA’s report ➡️ www.irena.org/Publications...

Carbon capture is not the pathway to global cooling.

www.unep.org/news-and-sto...

A new UN report states that carbon dioxide removal (CDR) “is not a substitute for rapid emission reduction.” Reduction is the “pathway”. Alternative energy can limit the peak temperature and then bring it back down.

Exceeding 1.5°C must not mean abandoning the goal. UNEP explains five things to know about climate overshoot and the choices that will shape what happens next.

Carbon capture is “a mirage” propagated by fossil fuel majors: ”to help the climate and decarbonise their industries, even as they continue burning fossil fuels.”

As extreme wildfire events accelerate across the West, we can add to this dismal report the carbon released from burning boreal forests — driving total atmospheric emissions even higher. Yet official Carney policy continues to prioritize the expansion of fossil fuel.

The weak premise that would flop about in the light of a court challenge is the claim that Canada is discriminating against the US. The tit-for-tat tariffs enacted by Canada are a response to the US initiated, unilateral trade war with Canada.

Canada, under Carney, is abandoning major goals in our fight against the climate crisis.
