www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... Excellent from @johnharris1969.bsky.social Fully support Burnham’s devolution zeal, but rural deprivation & inequality have always been underestimated, let’s get it right this time.
Cities are the big winners in Burnham’s devolution drive. But what happens to the rest of England? | John Harris
Labour has promised a ‘fundamental rewiring’ of power. But some areas are years into their devolution journey while others scramble to get started, says Guardian columnist John Harris

Still the Guvnor
In 1977, I saw Led Zeppelin at the Los Angeles Forum.
It was like a religious experience for me. The music pulsed through my body with each note from Jimmy Page & John Paul Johns, Bonham's incredible drumming, and Plant's voice was like nothing I ever heard! #AgingTogether

What a book this is, a story of one family that also encapsulates the story of a county, a nation & an empire, rigorous yet highly readable.
Drax of Drax Hall: How One British Family Got Rich (and Stayed Rich) from Sugar and Slavery, the paperback edition seems to be in the groove, here it is in Dorchester Waterstones as a recommended book.

This is a great favourite of mine as well as being a view that is quite nearby for me. This is "Poole Harbour" by Elwin Hawthorne from 1934. Elwin took his view from a point at or very near the junction between Sandbanks Road & Chrichel Mount Road (maps ex
National Libraries of Scotland).

⭐⭐⭐⭐ “…this performance was infused with [Gillam’s] irresistible energy and expressive warmth” says @@thetimes.com in a 4-star review for last Thursday’s @bristolbeacon.bsky.social performance with Jess Gillam. Dani Howard’s Saxophone Concerto was described as “irresistible” paying homage to...

Fascinating
The first time the word "ska" appeared in print was on March 17, 1964. But I found that ska was first spelled "sca" and it actually appeared in print before this. I reported it to the Oxford English Dictionary about a decade ago, but no reply. Have a read and see the articles here.
