I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. As part of #IowaCity Sidewalk Sales, we put out deeply discounted books - children's, mystery and thriller, ancient history, all kinds - and give all proceeds to the Iowa City Free Medical Clinic.

The sale is on 11-6 Friday and Saturday. Come find some treasures and help your neighbors!

This child helped to put the sale books out today. He is VERY helpful. Some boxes of books next to the Benefit Sale sign. Mostly mystery novels and some books in Greek and Latin or about ancient history on this table, but there's a broad selection, including about 100 children's books.

I just saw this at the website of SRF (Swiss radio and TV). They say that old books go by the pallet-load from Europe to a Canadian AI company, via a temporary storage at the Czech-German boarder with an alleged volume of 700K titles just from Germany and three Mio. worldwide, to later destroy them.

Having AI read graduate names in a commencement ceremony deeply depersonalizes something that is profoundly personal & human for these graduates. Why remove personal recognition & connection at a time when the personal can & should be celebrated? This isn't a technical glitch. This is a poor choice
