I'm in my annual "2 months of random grief" cos everyone important in my life died in August-October, & grief sneaks up on you sometimes, even decades later. But it's worse than usual this year because I'm also grieving me & opportunities missed because poorer Scottish women are forced to care.

I haven't been on here for months, because I associate it with my History Hobby & it has been something that I had to step away from for disability reasons. I dont know what I am going to do next, but I was finding folk using my knowledge but not being willing to pay me for it a bit rubbish. 1.2

can the government please make up their fkn minds? Do you want less NEET under 25s or not? Why attack degrees like nursing?

“In a letter to the Office for Students, which distributes the funding, Bridget Phillipson, the education secretary, said funding should no longer be given to support nursing, computing, history, creative arts, performing arts, archaeology, and geography courses.”

took a break because "personal reasons"
Felt I had to leave a comment about the past week up the Toon in Glasgow.
To understand why it happened, look up "Glasgow Council Processions"
Click on links to the diary of organised processions. Look at last wknd & tomorrow 🙄

how can Hamilton be "South Scotland" and "Motherwell/Wishaw" be Central Scotland? It makes absolutely no sense at all to have them on different regional lists. Opportunity lost for 2 SNP party list seats in the real South Scotland tory heartlands because of this daft boundary?
May 8, 2026 at 10:57 PM
the party list system needs to get in the bin- how is it fair for someone who came third in their constituency to get a seat? And for the party that came second in vote % share to get 1 less msp than the one in third % place?

dont read the bbc or other news channel reports today. As usual the text says things that the map and statistics contradict. Labour have kept control of some councils. Others are no majority. Numbers of councillors vary by council so national totals mean nothing. Noone is reporting %s of votes.

The most wtf thing about the current elections is the media's obsession with claiming that members of a party which elected a Jewish man as its leader are antisemitic, & that he is too. The party which btw doesnt take donations from media or any other industry. Fkn dogwhistle bollocks.

crip life part x of 100s. Universal Credit is set up based on English laws. It's automated service requests cant cope with Scottish people not having rent increases in April because our Housing Laws are different. That's a person inputting the bulk request dates btw, AI would've adjusted it by now.

🧵 1. Way back in 1997, I had just completed my BA. I was accepted for a MPhil by my University. My research was to be "education for boys and young men." Despite being the only person in Scotland at the time doing that research, the University said "it's a different department's turn..."

Today's lesson is "don't make assumptions, always research the election candidates" There isn't a Green candidate in my ward, they obvs took a bavk seat to not split the anti-Sawar/anti-reform vote. But had a look at the SNP candidate who I wasnt sure about. Turns out he's gonna make a fantastic MSP

has anyone else noticed that their memories on Facebook/meta seem to be omitting political rant type posts? I had several from International Women's Day just not showing this year.

I think this work has been ongoing for a while because I know this was the answer to a school group in Govan a few years ago asking GUARD archaeologists "what was your favourite dig?"

Why dont landlords & tradespeople understand that sending a guy to someone's house unannounced, or not turning up on the day they say they will, has a direct impact on domestic abuse? No-one wants to deal with a family member's rage/upset about something she had no control over.

was just thinking (having been on the station tours) the problem with any fire near to central is the rabbit warren of tunnels that are underneath the station & surrounding buildings (which have basements) they need to wait to check underground temperatures as well?

"A spindle-whorl for a spindle-whorl", as the Old Testament says (vaguely remembered).
Here's one from Orkney for Women's Day, in Sc. Gaelic & ogham script (Buckquoy, S-ORK-005). It probably reads BENDDACTANIML "a blessing, soul of L".

really pleased to see this, the show people have always been part of Govan & Partick communities. They've been moved from every other site for private profit (& a polis station). Showpeople win legal fight to avoid being evicted by Glasgow City Council - BBC News share.google/edk2Mze8tlG9...
Showpeople win legal fight to avoid being evicted by Glasgow City Council
Glasgow City Council went to the Court of Session in Edinburgh to get permission to force the community from their homes in Govan.

Regards to "family voting" if your parent or older relative has vision issues or English as a second language, who else is going to "interpret" the voting slip for them? It just stinks to suddenly have an issue with that (despite any underlying illegality) because a certain party didnt win.

There's yet another UK wide medication shortage just now, if anyone is wondering why their newsfeed is constantly full of the files that no-one should have to see to believe the victims. Because our trade routes/supply sources are limited since brexit, 4th shortage over past 2yrs.
February 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM
also noticed that any political chat on here isnt being promoted in feeds, unless it's about issues which are US &/or have huge volume. I dunno if it's logarithmic, but I'm not showing on UK feeds if I mention UK government issues like social care or criticise UK right wing narratives.

I feel like AI is gaslighting me- as a Scottish person INEOS has always popped up on news, social media etc. Because "Grangemouth" the Chinese involvement was always mentioned. It was an accepted "fact," now just try searching for this rebranded as "British" company's longterm links with China.

I have this theory that the Student Loans debate always appears round about when folk are deciding to go to uni in August (or not) much in the same way the weather forecast is always terrible just as the leccy companies offer annual payment plans? I fear it's to put off poorer kids... 1.2

am I the only person who already knew who was responsible for New Labour leaks? I feel like M's dodginess was a constant staple of panel shows in the 90s? Brown & Cameron obvs knew. Opposition parties suddenly reporting to the polis now only makes you wonder what bad news they are trying to bury?
